"This man deserves a standing ovation from America tonight," White posted on Instagram.

"God bless Stephen, it is completely absurd that we live in a nation where network television can be vindictively censored by a president's ego.and no one intervenes. Hold your head up, sir, and go along your new routes. We've laughed a lot because you've been honest, and we anticipate even more in the future. I'm grateful."

"Here's to Stephen Colbert, a man of great integrity and wit," Conan O'Brien posted on the Team Coco Instagram site. "Go on to greater and better things, my friend."

"I appreciate the warmth, the laughs, and the Peach Bourbon spicy sauce. (And for this one, screw Paramount, CBS, Globochem, and everything else).

Before Stephen Colbert's final program, Jimmy Fallon posted a painting of his colleague presenter along with a portion of the same phrase.

Desi Lydic, host of the Daily Show, recalled, "Being on @colbertlateshow was a dream come true." We are grateful that you shared with us your heart, intelligence, and unparalleled wit. We are all inspired by you. You are loved by us.

About Stephen Colbert's exit from The Last Show

The Late Show's remarkable 33-year run came to an end as Stephen Colbert concluded the show's final edition with special guest Sir Paul McCartney.

During Thursday night's performance, Sir Paul and Colbert talked about their memories of The Beatles touring the United States and their previous appearances at New York's Ed Sullivan Theater.

The crew and staff of The Late Show gathered on stage to bid farewell to the couple, who concluded with a rendition of Hello, Goodbye.

In his customary monologue, Stephen Colbert informed the audience that there would be no "special" farewell episode, but rather business as usual.

There was a lot of conjecture during the broadcast regarding Stephen Colbert's last guest.

A number of well-known cameos, including actors Bryan Cranston, Paul Rudd, and Ryan Reynolds, emerged to compete for the honor but were informed they were left out.

In the last seconds of the episode, Stephen Colbert and Sir Paul went backstage to permanently turn down the lights of The Late episode following an exuberant rendition of Hello, Goodbye.
