Bill Skarsgård has opened up about using his Pennywise voice in front of his children. He said that the voice of the villainous character sometimes slips out at home, especially "if they misbehave".

The actor is renowned for playing the role of Pennywise the Dancing Clown in the IT franchise. The first movie came out in 2017, and he has reprised his role in the 2019 sequel, IT Chapter Two. He also plays the character in the series, IT: Welcome to Derry.

Bill Skarsgård recently revealed that he also uses the voice of the villainous Pennywise at home. In an episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, released on November 5, host Josh Horowitz asked Skarsgård:

“I would imagine you’re not doing your Pennywise voice in the company of your children. Have they heard you do Pennywise?”

The actor answered that he uses the voice sometimes “if they misbehave”. He added:

“He can slip out there. Can slip in, can slip out, and Nosferatu can pop in. There’s a whole colorful bunch of schizophrenic daddy.”

Notably, Bill Skarsgård has two kids, whom he shares with his partner, Alida Morberg. They announced their relationship in 2016 and have been together since. They welcomed their daughter in 2018. In 2022, they announced that Morberg was pregnant, and in 2023, Skarsgård confirmed that he was the father of two.

The Swedish couple has largely kept information about both their kids private, with their names and the sex of the second child unknown. Skarsgård did speak about his daughter on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in September 2019, saying:

“She’s 11 months old … I’ve gotten a bunch of fun merch throughout the years so her little baby room is filled with all these Pennywise teddy bears.”

Meanwhile, just like Skarsgård, Morberg also comes from an acting family and is an actress herself.

The IT star is famous for his role as Pennywise the Dancing Clown. However, Bill Skarsgård has also played another villainous character, i.e., Count Orlok in Nosferatu, released in 2024.

During his conversation on the aforementioned podcast, the actor was also asked about potentially playing more villainous characters. He said:

“It would have to be something that felt original to me, that was something that I hadn’t done before. I feel, kind of, spent with those things. But there’s villains [that] could be really fun in different ways and if it’s the right kind.”

He added that he is not “actively looking for” villainous roles at the moment. He further said:

“A lot of people ask me what goes into picking your roles or whatever and I don’t really know how to say it other than I feel drawn or compelled. It’s something that you can’t really put your words on it and describe why it’s happening. I’ve also noticed that I don’t want to become jaded ... which means that I think I could probably go long stretches without working and just waiting for something to be compelling enough for me to work on.”

Bill Skarsgård also joked about potentially playing the villain in the next James Bond movie.
