The WNBA star, Brittney Griner, made headlines recently after the news of her separation from her wife, Cherelle, broke. The couple reportedly filed for divorce to end their 8-year marriage. For those unaware, Brittney tied the knot with Cherelle in June 2018.

As reported by People, Brittney and Cherelle met years earlier while they were studying at Baylor University and got married. Five years later, they announced their pregnancy in April 2024 and welcomed their son, Bash Raymond Griner, in July that year. Cherelle shared the news of the pregnancy with an Instagram post. The caption read:

“Can’t believe we’re less than three months away from meeting our favorite human being,” Cherelle captioned a photo of their sonogram images on Instagram.

A month later, Brittney Griner shared a picture of Cherelle’s baby shower.

Besides Bash Raymond, Brittney Griner has two kids from her previous marriage with Glory B. Johnson. She gave birth to twin girls, Solei Diem and Ava Simone. They were born in October 2015 shortly after they got married in May that year. Johnson and Griner’s finalized their divorce one year after their marriage.

Brittney Griner seeks shared custody of Bash Raymond

The Connecticut Sun center called the relationship "irretrievably broken" as per court records. She has also requested shared legal custody of their son, Bash Raymond, as per a Page Six report.

Earlier this month, on July 8, Brittney shared a post for her son and wished him a happy birthday. The caption of the heartfelt post read:

“Happy Birthday to my everything! I had no idea that you were going to change my life the way you did. I love you so much Bash Raymond Griner and Happy Birthday Son! We are the luckiest parents on earth! I also have to say Thank you baby for bringing into this world a happy healthy baby boy. You did an amazing job creating life.”

As per People, Brittney Griner filed for divorce on July 30 in Fulton County.
