“I was in a very bad, unhealthy relationship”: Danielle Fishel recalls ending troubled relationship after wrapping Boy Meets World filming 

Danielle Fishel has been candid about a turbulent period in her personal life. The actress, who is now forty-five years old, looked back on leaving a bad relationship she was in at nineteen. She spoke about it on the August 13 episode of Pod Meets World.

"This was a rough year for Danielle, personally. I was in a very bad, unhealthy relationship that also then ended around the end of 2000 or beginning of 2001," Fishel recalled.

Boy Meets World had just wrapped its seven-season run. Fishel wasn't auditioning. She was dealing with something far more personal. Things moved fast once she decided to leave Beverly Hills. Her mother ended up finding her a new apartment in Sherman Oaks because Fishel left in such a rush.

"I left in such a rush that my mom actually had to find my apartment for me," she shared.

"So I moved, and then I moved into this apartment that she picked," she continued.

Danielle Fishel didn't look back fondly on that stretch of time.

"That year was not a fun year, not a year I like revisiting at all," Fishel explained.

Danielle Fishel reveals she told her agent she didn't want to audition for anything after Boy Meets World wrapped:

Fishel's Pod Meets World cohosts, Rider Strong and Will Friedle, asked whether she faced any pressure from her agent to get back to work during that period. She remembered things being relatively straightforward.

"Not that I remember," she clarified.

"I know, for sure, I had said, 'I don't want anything. I don't want to audition for anything. I'm just done for a little bit.' And I don't remember there being a lot of pushback," she added.

The personal upheaval also coincided with a professional transition. Danielle Fishel pointed out she was moving away from having a kid's agent and going out for older parts at the same time.

"For me to say, like, 'I'm in a holding pattern. I'm not sure what I'm going to do,' we just kind of put that on hold," she said.

"And then I did eventually sign with the Young Talent department at Innovative, which was run by Abby Bluestone, who is still there and she's amazing," she added.

Danielle Fishel opens up about how producers treated her differently once she started speaking up:

Fishel had also made headlines back in July, after she opened up about the shift in how she was treated on set across both shows. Danielle Fishel spoke about it on an episode of the I Choose Me with Jennie Garth podcast.

"I had been a real go-with-the-flow, not ruffle any feathers, be so easy to work with, a consummate professional," Fishel said.

"And essentially what that meant is the producers felt like they could tell me to do whatever they wanted me to do, and I would never push back," she added.

Boy Meets World ran from 1993 to 2000. The spinoff, Girl Meets World, premiered in 2014. By then, Fishel was a different person entirely.

"When we got to Girl Meets World, I think I had been so used to, in my personal life, going away from that, that when we went to the set, and I was now a new person, an adult, a grownup, who had thoughts and opinions of her own, and wasn't incredibly shy about sharing them," she continued.

Danielle Fishel shares how she had to make peace with being labeled difficult:

As per a report shared by Entertainment Weekly, Fishel clarified that she hadn't been "in front of groups of people chastising somebody else's decisions." She would speak to people individually when something made her uncomfortable.

"It was more like, when something happened I felt uncomfortable with, I would then make time to go in and talk to the people I felt uncomfortable with and say, 'Can I talk to you about something? This makes me feel uncomfortable,'" she recounted.

Danielle Fishel added that

"And the response was, 'Well, she's gone crazy! Have you seen what's going on with her? She's got rules and boundaries about the way we're allowed to talk to her and to touch her and to interact with her. It's shocking!'"

Fishel, who was both a producer and star of Girl Meets World, admitted she started questioning herself.

"Am I? Am I difficult?" she recalled.

"The alternative doesn't make me feel like I can live with myself, so I guess I just have to be difficult. And that has to be okay with me. I guess I am a difficult person, even though I didn't think any of the things I was asking for or requesting was difficult," she added.
