Jaime West, the Indiana Democrat who went viral for slurring her words during a TV3 interview and vowing to fire “all Republicans,” has now admitted to drinking three beers before the sit-down. West, who is running for Fayette County Council District 4, appeared on Piers Morgan Uncensored Monday. Morgan, who is now sixty-one years old, told her a lot of people had already assumed she had been drinking, before asking,

“I’m going to be completely straight with you, a lot of people assumed you might have had a drink before you did that interview. Did you?”

Jaime West confirmed that she had a Coors Light, adding,

“I had a beer.”

That being said, Morgan wasn’t done. He pressed her on whether it had stopped at just the one, at which point West replied,

“Maybe a couple … I was nervous, okay?!”
“I get it. We’ve all had a drink when we’re nervous,” Morgan told her.

He then pushed one final time.

“Here’s your chance to be completely honest and transparent. How many beers did you have?”

West replied,

“Alright, three. What do you want me to say, man? I had three beers.”

Jaime West claims sobriety before Piers Morgan interview while standing by her Republican comments:

West pushed back on the suggestion that she had been drunk during the TV3 sit-down, claiming she was “not that intoxicated” and knew exactly what she was talking about when it came to Indiana politics. Morgan then asked whether she had consumed any alcohol before sitting down with him on Piers Morgan Uncensored too. West said she hadn’t. He asked if she was completely sober.

“Yep,” she shared.

Morgan also asked West whether she regretted her more controversial remarks from the viral interview, including calling all Republicans “racist and dumb.”

(The remarks reflect West’s personal opinions, not established facts about Republicans as a group. Her characterization is a broad generalization and should not be interpreted as the publication’s endorsement or as an evidence-based assessment of Republicans generally.)

West said she didn’t regret sharing her opinions, adding that

“No, I say it all the time. I’m not friends with them. I don’t like them.”
“They voted for all of this that’s happening and to our country. We have a constitutional crisis. We have an illegal war going on,” she continued.

Jaime West noted she has “every right to be angry” and that so does every American.

Jaime West’s viral interview moments:

The TV3 interview that started it all had several moments worth revisiting. West was asked what her most unpopular decision would be if elected. She didn’t hesitate.

“Firing all Republicans. I wouldn’t let them. I mean, I don’t even talk to them. I don’t like them,” West responded.

That wasn’t all. West also brought up a threat she claimed was made against her, telling the interviewer that

“The sheriff’s nephew threatened to blow my head off. But you know, what are you going to do.”

She then made the case for why voters should trust her, pointing to her work delivering groceries and packages for her community.

“I deliver a lot of groceries and packages for my community. So if you trust me, you know, delivering your groceries, you should trust me with your vote,” West said.

Fayette County voters and local sheriff respond to Jaime West’s viral interview comments:

FOX59/CBS4 headed to a local polling location in Fayette County to get voter reactions to West’s comments. Dale Lanning hadn’t seen the forum before being shown clips of her appearance, and wasn’t impressed. He told the outlet,

“It’s pitiful that we have candidates like that. She just rambles. She don’t say anything worth listening to. She just rambles.”

Iona and Carl McFarland had already caught Jaime West's comments on national television the night before heading to the polls.

“She did seem a little off. I don’t think she knows what’s up and down,” shared Iona McFarland.

Fayette County Sheriff Zac Jones also weighed in, specifically on West’s claim that his nephew had threatened to shoot her. Jones told FOX59/CBS4 that he has no nephews and does not know West. The sheriff added that it was sad West was the best candidate local Democrats could put forward.
