Olivia Dean was named Best New Artist at the 2026 Grammy Awards, capping off a breakout year with a win that she used to spotlight her immigrant roots and call for unity.

The British singer-songwriter garnered applause from the Crypto.com audience and a plethora of celebrities after she was announced as this year's titleholder, especially when she delivered her meaningful acceptance speech.

"I'm up here as the granddaughter of an immigrant. I'm a product of bravery, and I think those people deserve to be celebrated."

The Art of Loving star concluded:

"We're nothing without each other, thank you so much."

Olivia Dean bested equally impressive singers for the Best New Artist award, such as Addison Rae, KATSEYE, The Marías, Sombr, Leon Thomas, Lola Young, and Alex Warren.

Prior to receiving the coveted award, Olivia Dean performed her romantic hit, Man I Need, at the 2026 Grammys, clad in a sparkly crimson dress amidst a golden backdrop and band members in suits and ties.

Olivia Dean, while she grew up in northeast London, was raised by an English father and a Jamaican-Guyanese mom. Her grandmother, whom she referred to in her acceptance speech, was from the Windrush generation.

What's next for Olivia Dean after Best New Artist win at 2026 Grammy Awards

Olivia Dean knew she wanted to be a singer when she was young.

In a 2023 conversation with the BBC, the Reason To Stay songstress said she grew up watching her cousin, So Solid Crew rapper and actor Ashley Walters, perform. Still, it was another London-based artist who inspired her a chunk.

"People always try and say something cool when they talk about their first record - but I remember my Granny taking me to Woolworths to buy Leona Lewis's A Moment Like This on CD single."

A year after her Live At Eventim Apollo album, Dean dropped her 2025 album The Art of Loving, which contains her would-be breakout hits Man I Need and So Easy.

In an interview on the podcast …And The Writer Is, the singer revealed that Man I Need's inspiration came from The Way You Make Me Feel by Michael Jackson and Tangfastic sweets from the popular sweet and sour foam gummies, Haribo.

"I came in that day and there was a lot of energy in the room. And I was like, 'Guys, let's make something really fun. I want to make something I can dance to. I want to make something that when I perform live, it's just gonna be like a Tangfastic. We started with the drum beat and I was like, 'Yeah, I want to do something kind of like Michael [Jackson]'s The Way You Make Me Feel-esque.' And I sat at the Wurly [a Wurlitzer electric piano] and we kind of just, like, wrote it."

Following her Best New Artist win at the 2026 Grammy Awards, Dean will commence her tour from February through October. She is slated to serenade her fans from the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, the United States, New Zealand, Australia, and many more.
