Piers Morgan has called for answers after reports emerged that Thomas Markle’s ex-wife sent Meghan Markle a letter in 2019 warning her about alleged child abuse involving her father.

The journalist reacted to the news posted on X, questioning why the allegations were not addressed at the time if the letter’s claims were true.

“If true, this makes it even more inexplicable that nothing was done at the time. The letter should be published so we can see exactly what claims were made.”

One social media user then responded by accusing Piers Morgan of previously supporting Thomas Markle, prompting the British broadcaster to defend his position.

“Yes, and if he turns out to have been a child abuser, I will obviously condemn him unreservedly.”

He then questioned why the police and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had allegedly been alerted to the concerns years earlier without action being taken.

“But unlike the police and the Sussexes, I wasn’t tipped off he might be, eight years ago. Why was nothing done? Why was nothing said? These are big questions that need answers.”

The exchange follows the recent allegations against Thomas Markle, the estranged father of the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle, wherein Thomas Markle Jr. reported finding a cache of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) in boxes and hard drives at his father's former home in the Philippines.

He then reported the material to Philippine authorities, the FBI hotline, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), and state police in Pennsylvania.

The Philippines Justice Department's child abuse unit confirmed the matter is under investigation. Thomas Markle Sr. denied all accusations, calling them "sick lies," and has not been formally charged.

Meghan Markle “deeply distressed” about the news about estranged father Thomas Markle

Following the news, Meghan Markle issued a statement to People in which she expressed her stance and feelings about the gruelling matter.

“I am deeply distressed at the news that has come to light in the last 24 hours, and my thoughts are with any children who may have been harmed.”

She went on:

“In 2018, a letter was sent to the Metropolitan Police and Royalty and Specialist Protection. That letter was subsequently shared with me. It made troubling and disturbing allegations against my father, and I was given assurances that these were being investigated.”

Meghan Markle continued, vowing that her priority, despite everything, is her children.

“I hope it can now be understood that, despite certain media publications’ distortion over the years, any distance from my father and my choice to not allow him to have contact with our children, was for one reason: to protect them. I trusted that the authorities were doing the same for other families.”

The Suits star added:

“Although the breadth of what has now been uncovered is more sickening than one could ever imagine, my sincerest hope is that justice will be fully served and that the priority remains the safety and protection of innocent children.”
