Bill Maher took shots at President Trump for sharing an AI-generated video of the Obama family.

During the Friday episode of Real Time, Maher dubbed Trump's post "racist" and "lame." The video, set to the song “The Lion Sleeps Tonight," depicted the former president and first lady's faces superimposed onto apes in a jungle, as they swayed side to side.

The video has sparked outrage online, though the president has refused to issue an apology. However, he has since deleted it, claiming he only saw a part of it. He also reportedly blamed his staff.

“Trump did a Roseanne,” Maher said, referencing comedian Roseanne Barr, whose infamous tweet about Valerie Jarrett culminated in her sitcom Roseanne getting axed in 2018. “The defense, I thought, from the administration, was rather lame. They said, ‘He did not mean to hit share. He meant to hit like,’” Maher joked.

He then blamed her tweets on Ambien before apologizing.

“Karoline Leavitt, she’s his very loyal press spokesperson, she said the president was just reposting a meme of him as the king of the jungle, with Democrats as characters from The Lion King, as world leaders do,” Maher said. “Of course, there are two things a little wrong with this one: there are no apes in The Lion King. Two, if it’s a cartoon character, it’s OK? That’s a rule now? So it’s OK if somebody made a cartoon of Elmer Fudd shooting Charlie Kirk, that would be OK, you f***ing hypocrites?”

During a press conference on Friday night on Air Force One, Trump was questioned about the post. At the time, he emphasised that he was the “least racist president you’ve had in a long time.”

“No, I didn't make a mistake. I mean, if I look at a lot of thousands of things, I looked at the beginning of it. It was fine,” Trump said.

He was asked if he condemned the racist aspect of the video, to which he replied affirmatively.

“Of course I do.” He then claimed that he "really has no message" for the Americans offended by the video, adding that the U.S. is the “hottest country anywhere in the world” right now.

As of this writing, Barack and Michelle Obama have not responded to the video. South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, a Republican who is Black, took to X to slam the president for the clip.

“It's the most racist thing I’ve seen out of this White House. The President should remove it,” he said on X.
