On September 21, President Trump responded to CNN, MS NOW, and Politico’s new lawsuit amid White House ban. Earlier in the day, the three media outlets released a joint statement saying that they were filing a lawsuit against the government to protect their rights under the First Amendment. They also added that the government can’t direct the outlets on their reporting. The statement read:“This morning, we notified the government that we are filing a lawsuit today to protect our First Amendment rights and defend the principle that the government does not decide what the press reports or publishes.”It continued as:“Without notice or process, the White House revoked our journalists’ credentials because it objected to our reporting. Left unchallenged, this threatens press freedom and the public’s right to independent journalism free from government interference.”Trump reacted to this lawsuit, saying that his ban was not against the free press but against ‘fake news.’ He added that ‘fake news’ has grown like a ‘cancer’ in the country. In his Truth Social post, the POTUS wrote:“The White House is not instituting an assault on the Free Press, something which I cherish. It is instituting an assault on the FAKE NEWS, something that has grown like Cancer in our beloved United States of America. It is corrupt, purposeful, pervasive, fully coordinated, and totally out of control. It is a threat to our National Security, and must be stopped, NOW! Thank you for your attention to this matter.”Trump imposed White House ban on CNN, MS NOW, and PoliticoOn September 18, the president accused the three media outlets of spreading ‘fake news’ and banned them from White House reporting with immediate effect. In his post, the POTUS said:“I am proud to announce that, effective immediately, I am banning Fake News CNN, MSNOW (who recently changed their name from MSNBC due to lack of viewership and credibility!), and Politico (The recipients of an illegal and ridiculous 8 Million Dollar subscription, an All Time Record, directly from the United States Government, under Crooked Joe Biden, in order to keep them "alive." Seems like corruption to me!), from the White House as a result of their constant "reporting" FAKE NEWS!”Trump also said that they spread ‘fiction’ and ‘lies.’Following this, the reporters of the banned outlets were denied entry to the White House. CNN and other outlets dubbed Trump’s ban as an ‘illegal assault’ on their constitutional rights. The president also hinted that more media outlets could face a similar ban in the near future.
