Authorities have revealed that Corie Walsh was humming a tune when they asked her about the death of her son. They claimed that she admitted to the murder but kept singing Follow the Yellow Brick Road.

Corie Walsh allegedly killed her 2-year-old son, Barrett Walsh, by hanging him at her home in Frankfort, Illinois, earlier this month. Her other two kids came back from school and saw the situation. They ran to the neighbors for help. One neighbor tried to do CPR on Barrett, but he had no pulse.

The authorities arrived at the scene, and Barrett was later declared dead due to asphyxiation. Meanwhile, Corie Walsh was found submerged in her bathtub at the time. She had injuries on her wrists and her thighs.

According to the New York Post, investigators have alleged that when Walsh was later asked about the incident, she started humming a song. She sang Follow the Yellow Brick Road, a song from The Wizard of Oz.

The prosecutors claimed that Walsh also admitted to killing her son and said he was “anti-Christ” and “devil”. The prosecutors allege that Corie Walsh even incorrectly thought that she had killed her other three children as well. The authorities had found her eight-month-old baby in an upstairs room.

Walsh's husband was out of town at the time of the incident. The prosecutors alleged that Walsh also had plans to kill him when he returned. They claimed that she said she would "poison him with a drink" during the interrogation.

Corie Walsh texted with friends about Lindsay Clancy before killing her son

According to the prosecutors and investigators, Corie Walsh often texted her friends about the Lindsay Clancy case. According to NBC 5 Chicago, court documents suggested that she "had been actively discussing the case via group text message with her friends" just hours before the murder was discovered at her home.

For the unversed, Lindsay Clancy killed her three kids by strangling them in their home in Duxbury, Massachusetts, in 2023. She then also slit her wrist and jumped from the second floor, leaving her paralyzed. Her case ended in a mistrial earlier this month after the jury failed to reach a unanimous decision.

The prosecutors alleged that Corie Walsh often discussed Clancy's case with her friends. She allegedly claimed that Clancy's husband killed his three children, reportedly sending a text on September 1 that read:

“It was manslaughter, please I’m really freaking out."

Walsh's defense lawyers, however, claimed that labeling her a Lindsay Clancy 'copycat' was 'sickening'. Attorney Robert Kerr said:

"Describing Corie as a copy of Lindsay is taking an easy bait."

Following the incident, Walsh's attorney had stated:

"This is a tragedy, for the Walsh family all of whom are mourning the loss of this child. It is also a tragedy in that Corie herself was experiencing a psychotic episode at the time this happened. It is our hope that through a thorough presentation and investigation of the facts, all of us will come to see this heartbreak for what it is."

Corie Walsh is currently detained, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 24.
