The four-time Oscar-nominated actress Saoirse Ronan, widely known for her incredible performances in period films, during a conversation with the Associated Press, cleared up James Bond casting speculation about her husband, Jack Lowden, with whom she tied the knot in July 2024, after being in a romantic relationship for six years. Ronan and Lowden had their first child in September 2025, as per InStyle.
As cited by Variety, while speaking to the Associated Press, Saoirse Ronan, 32, took the opportunity to dismiss the rumors surrounding her husband, the Calibre actor Jack Lowden, about landing the role of James Bond.
While the recipient of the Golden Globe Award, Saoirse Ronan paid no heed to the casting speculations surrounding her husband, as nothing official has been announced regarding Jack Lowden starring in the role of James Bond, the Lovely Bones actress told the Associated Press:
"It’s not really a subject that’s coming up in our house to be honest. The dog needs to be walked, the dinner needs to be made."
The rumor surrounding Jack Lowden landing the role of James Bond instantly intensified after veteran actor Gary Oldman commented on it in September 2026 on a Canadian TV show, as per Variety. When the owner of the Bond franchise, Amazon MGM Studios, refused to make a comment on it, the Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy actor, Oldman, withdrew his statement.
As Saoirse Ronan mentioned that Gary Oldman thinks Lowden could be the next Bond, the Lady Bird actress said:
"Well, Gary Oldman thinks [Jack] is James Bond which is its own thing."
While answering how they are dealing with the speculation, as a couple, Ronan said:
"I mean we’re getting on with our life to be honest, we have plenty of other things to be dealing with. It’s not really a subject that’s coming up in our house to be honest. The dog needs to be walked, the dinner needs to be made. We’re more focused on that. Jack’s on ‘Slow Horses’ right now and he’s having a good time on that."
Saoirse Ronan opened up about wanting to play a Bond villain

Cementing her name as a young, well-established actress and showcasing her acting range, Saoirse Ronan, during a conversation with Empire, revealed that she wants to play dark characters and specifically mentioned how she wanted to play a villain in the James Bond franchise. Ronan told Empire:
"I want to go dark. I wanted to be a Bond villain and I’m dead serious. I think it would be really interesting, having a young female villain. Especially for girls and women, to see someone who can just take all that pent-up anger and direct it somewhere, there’s something interesting in that dramatically. So I would love to do more of that."
