Ever since Jamari Sharpe picked off Hurricanes quarterback Carson Beck in 52 seconds and helped Indiana win over Miami at the CFP National Championship, his fame has been through the roof.

All college football lovers are now well aware of his name. The defensive back is also trending on social media platforms like X. This was Jamari’s first interception of the season.

While many people assume Jamari Sharpe is related to NFL legend and sports analyst Shannon Sharpe, there is no relation between the two. The assumption stems solely from their shared last name, but the families have no known connection. Jamari Sharpe is the nephew of Glenn Sharpe, who is a well-known figure in the history of Miami’s college football scene. Glenn played as a defensive back for the Miami Hurricanes in the early 2000s.

After Miami looked to have defeated Ohio State, Glenn Sharpe was tagged for a questionable pass interference call; the decision kept the Buckeyes’ momentum going and allowed them to tie the game before winning in double overtime.

About Jamari Sharpe

Jamari Sharpe is a defensive back from Miami. He started as a defensive back and wide receiver for head coach Max Edwards at Northwestern Senior High School.

Born on September 22, 2003, to Marissa Romeo and Jeremiah Sharpe, Jamari was chosen to participate in the Dade-Broward All-Star Game after excelling at wideout for three seasons and cornerback for one.

Jamari has mentioned that Miami was not among the colleges interested in Jamari Sharpe, a three-star recruit from Miami Northwestern Senior High School.

He also earned the district title in the 200 meters with a time of 21.47. In 2022, Jamari appeared in three games during his freshman season and redshirted his first collegiate year. His collegiate debut came against Illinois, and he was one of the 33 student-athletes to make their collegiate debut in 2022.

In the class of 2022, he committed to Indiana, where he remained through the Hoosiers’ hardships in 2022 and 2023, as well as the coaching transition to Curt Cignetti, who virtually instantly elevated a longstanding cellar dweller into a contender.

During an interview with CBS Sports, Jamari said that he always dreamed of playing for the Hurricanes while growing up but never got the chance to do so.

"This game meant a lot to me, you know? Growing up, I ain't gonna lie, I always wanted to be a Miami Hurricane. I always wanted to play in the Dolphins' stadium, as you can see. And you know, they didn't recruit me, so I just took that, I just took that, brung it on the field, brought that anger on the field to make a good play to seal the deal for my team", Jamari told CBS Sports.

After playing hero at the stadium he had always wanted to play in, Sharpe is now a national champion.
