Is Reese Witherspoon's dad okay? Actress shares update after father's hospitalization

Reese Witherspoon has addressed her fans about her father's health after being hospitalized from a fall at their Nashville house.

The actress, 50, shared an update on her 84-year-old father, John Witherspoon, on Instagram Stories on Aug. 7.

"Earlier today, several outlets reported that my dad was taken to the hospital after a fall. I want to let everyone know that he is fine now. He is being taken care of by wonderful doctors and nurses."

The Legally Blonde icon also thanked those who reached out to her family following reports of the incident.

"Thank you to everyone who reached out. It means the world to our family."

Reese Witherspoon did not provide further details about her father's fall or his condition.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson from the Nashville Metro Emergency Communications told People that there was a phone call made at about 4 p.m. local time regarding an unconscious man who was then rushed to the hospital.

John is a retired otolaryngologist and former U.S. Army lieutenant colonel. The Cruel Intentions star has often talked about the encouragement she got from her parents. In a 2008 interview with Marie Claire, Reese Witherspoon shared:

"I had parents who believed I could do anything, and I know how that made me feel. I think both my parents, having careers in the medical profession, feel they are helping people on a daily basis, and that was inculcated in me as a value."

Her mother, Betty Witherspoon, used to be a nurse. Reese Witherspoon has praised her parents for backing up all her personal and professional choices.

The new post from Reese Witherspoon comes just one month after she marked the 25th anniversary of her iconic chick-flick film Legally Blonde, with fellow cast members like Jennifer Coolidge, Selma Blair, Ali Larter, and many others.

The actress played Elle Woods, who decided to attend Harvard Law School to get back her ex-boyfriend Warner Huntington III, played by Matthew Davis. But her journey took a totally different path from what she wanted.

At the anniversary celebration, Reese Witherspoon tearfully shared how portraying Elle Woods impacted her.

"When I walked in, and I saw this moment, it just felt like it was galvanizing how I felt about playing this character — I'm gonna cry. Playing this character for 25 years has been the privilege of my life."

She continued:

"People come up to me, and they tell me stories about how they go to law school because of her, or they named their daughter Elle, or they overcame some incredible challenge in their life because she did that. She went through this experience of feeling like everybody was looking down on her or judged her, and I don't know a person on Earth who hasn't felt like an underdog in some situation."
