FIFA has launched an investigation after American streamer IShowSpeed was allegedly abused with racial comments in the FIFA World Cup in Miami.The abuse is alleged to have taken place following the game between Argentina and Cape Verde during the Round of 32 in the game held on July 3.iShowSpeed, who is also known as Speed, and whose real name is Darren Jason Watkins Jr., was present at the game donning a Cape Verde shirt.The internet personality had been streaming the game and was heard questioning someone wearing an Argentina shirt about what people were saying to him. In Spanish, the fan seemed to tell IShowSpeed, who is Black, to "go cry to the zoo."In light of the alleged racism during the match, FIFA issued an official statement announcing that they have started an investigation into the matter."FIFA was made aware of an incident involving a supporter and #IShowSpeed at Miami Stadium during the Argentina vs Cabo Verde match on 3 July 2026 and immediately initiated an investigation."They continued:"The FIFA World Cup is a celebration of unity, diversity and respect. It brings together people, cultures and communities from around the world, and anyone who acts in a manner that undermines these values is not welcome in our game."iShowSpeed in tears after Portugal's defeatThe social media influencer has remained a constant presence at the tournament, streaming matches for millions of fans.An ardent fan of Cristiano Ronaldo, the forward and centre-forward of Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr and the Portugal national team, iShowSpeed was spotted crying in one corner after Portugal suffered a 0-1 defeat by Spain.Further, this match marked the end of the World Cup adventure of Ronaldo, having participated in six World Cups (2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, 2022, and 2026), making 27 appearances and scoring 11 goals.From an excerpt of his live stream, the influencer tearfully says:"I thought he was gonna win it all, I thought he was gonna win it all, bro. I prayed for it."Following the defeat, Cristiano Ronaldo said in a statement his plans moving forward, while also addressing his sister's reported advice for him to retire."I am sad to be leaving the World Cup like this. I gave it my all. I did my best, and I am leaving with a clear conscience. It was my last World Cup, yes, but I will now have time to reflect and be with my family. In the early stages of the tournament, Kylian Mbappé condemned the racist comments made by Paraguayan senator Celeste Amarilla regarding France's win over Paraguay.After Amarilla's remarks were posted on social media, the French Football Federation announced plans to pursue criminal action, calling the comments "utterly abhorrent and unacceptable."FIFA has not provided a timeline for concluding its investigation into the allegations involving IShowSpeed.
