"It makes me laugh, and there he was": Lisa Kudrow revisits 'Friends' to remember Matthew Perry years after his death

Lisa Kudrow shared she still watches reruns of Friends nearly three years after Matthew Perry's death.

Speaking to Capital FM, Kudrow, who portrayed the quirky Phoebe Buffay in the 90s sitcom, said that re-watching Perry's performance as Chandler Bing helps her pay tribute to her late co-star and friend.

"After Matthew passed away, there were marathons [on TV] and that was really comforting watching the show. Also just because it makes me laugh, and there he was."

Besides Matthew Perry, Lisa Kudrow also acted alongside Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, and Matt LeBlanc in the hit TV show, and the six of them acted as a friend group in a New York apartment building and lived in apartments that faced each other.

Aniston plays Rachel Green, a teenage friend of Monica Geller (Cox) and Ross Geller's (Schwimmer) first love. Chandler Bing is Ross's college friend. Joey Tribbiani (LeBlanc) is Chandler Bing’s roommate, who later became part of the friend group.

Ahead of the end of the series, Chandler marries Monica, and they move to Westchester County with their adopted twins.

Decades after its run, Matthew Perry's Chandler Bing remains one of the most beloved and hilarious characters in a sitcom. Even Lisa Kudrow admits so, sharing with Capital FM:

"He was so funny, I mean, the funniest. Sorry, everybody else, but just truly."

The Easy A actress continued, saying that watching Friends reruns has become her pastime activity.

"I didn't watch every episode when we were shooting. I had a kid, and none of us were. It was, like, 'Oh, it's Thursday night [at] eight o'clock?' We were on too early."

She added:

"It's just important, kind of healing."

Lisa Kudrow reveals finding an old note from Matthew Perry 20 years after Friends ended

Two years after Matthew Perry's death, Lisa Kudrow revealed that she discovered a note from the actor, which she said she didn't know existed until then.

"Matthew gave that to me at the end of our last episode. I had recently found the note that he had in it for me."

The actress didn't divulge what the note says, but revealed that the bottle was given to her in 2004.

"I hadn't opened it up or looked inside of it. But yeah, he did. He had a note in there and I forgot about it."

In October 2023, Perry passed away from the acute effects of ketamine. He was 54.

The actor had been receiving legal ketamine infusion therapy for depression and anxiety. However, at the time, the coroner noted the ketamine in his system couldn't have been from that therapy, as its half-life is too short.

A years-long investigation was conducted after Matthew Perry's death, which led to the discovery of an "underground drug network" that supplied the late star with lethal doses of the drug.

Five people were charged in connection with his death, including his live-in assistant, two doctors, and a dealer known as the "Ketamine Queen."

Following his death, the Matthew Perry Foundation was established to support people suffering from addiction.
