On August 19, Gayle King called out Hayden Panettiere’s estranged mother, Lesley Vogel, over her comment on her daughter’s death. The ‘Heroes’ actress passed away on August 16 at the age of 36. Shortly after, Lesley opened up about Hayden’s death while talking to NBC News on August 18.Hayden Panettiere’s mother talked about the challenges her daughter faced throughout her life. She called Hayden one of the most talented people ever but also mentioned the difficulties of being an artist. Lesley said she felt Panettiere had “lost her way” and regretted that she struggled to stay true to herself.“I think young people who grow up in the entertainment industry, it is a struggle and it’s a very challenging industry and it’s not unusual for them to sadly find the wrong path,” Lesley said.Vogel continued:“I think it becomes very difficult to be true to yourself, and I think Hayden sadly lost her way, and I wish it were different. I wish she had stayed true to herself because she had many incredible attributes.”She also shared her belief that Hayden is now at peace with her younger brother, Jansen, who died suddenly in 2023 at the age of 28."I just feel that she’s with her brother and they're at peace," Lesley added.Following this, Gayle King gave a blunt response to Lesley’s statement during her latest CBS Mornings episode. She said:“Thanks, Mom, for nothing.”The TV personality further added:“It makes me so sad of the opportunity that you have after your daughter’s death that that’s what you choose to leave us with.”Hayden Panettiere reportedly died of cardiac arrestAs per the Greenville Police Department, Hayden was found unresponsive due to a reported cardiac arrest by the brother of her ex-boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, at a South Carolina residence. Brian’s brother, Zach Hickerson, saw the actress on a chair when he entered the house on Sunday afternoon. At the time, Brian was allegedly sleeping in the other room.The late actress’s ex-boyfriend was allegedly with Hayden at the time of her death. As reported by TMZ, Brian even handed over a bag of her medications to the police. According to documents, Brian and Zach called 911, but Hayden died after life-saving measures made by first responders failed.As per the latest development, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is conducting parallel investigations alongside the Greenville Police Department. Several reports also suggested that an ‘overdose’ could be the cause of Hayden Panettiere’s death.
