Nicki Minaj took aim at Democratic Michigan Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed after he discussed parental support in Brown families while contrasting his upbringing with that of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Abdul El-Sayed recently appeared on comedian Hasan Minhaj's podcast, where the host noted that El-Sayed had served as captain of three varsity sports teams.

On that point, El-Sayed took a swipe at Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and remarked that Hegseth would have "rode the pine" in whichever sport he played. The Democratic Senate candidate quipped that Hegseth likely started only "two games his entire career," yet his parents cheered "so hard" for him. Abdul El-Sayed contrasted that with his own experience growing up as a child, arguing that Brown parents' expectations often mean "you're never enough." He added:

"But for him, the very fact that he made the team, his mom was making cake. She was wearing his jersey. She had a cap made for him. You know the type."

Abdul El-Sayed's comments about Pete Hegseth drew many reactions. On Saturday, rapper Nicki Minaj fired back at El-Sayed in an X post.

"If you listen carefully it’s a misplaced anger at his own parents for not making him feel worthy that turned into raging jealousy of other children who had parents that lifted them up and poured into them. He’s projected all of that onto white people. He needs to mend his heart before thinking about running for any office. White ppl haven’t hurt him. He knows exactly who did," she wrote.

Further in her tweet, Nicki Minaj pointed to Abdul El-Sayed's attempt to seek corroboration from Hasan Minhaj regarding his characterization of Brown parenting.

"Notice how he doesn’t get the satisfaction he was craving when the interviewer simply anchors himself & doesn’t validate that experience. We should all do more of this. Don’t validate anyone’s experience for the sake of temporary bonding," the rapper added.

Elon Musk agrees with Nicki Minaj’s criticism of Abdul El-Sayed

Nicki Minaj's post aiming at Abdul El-Sayed drew thousands of reactions and reposts within hours. SpaceX boss Elon Musk, who has been actively stumping for Republicans, backed Minaj. Quote-posting the rapper's tweet, Musk wrote:

"Well said."

Previously, on Friday, Pete Hegseth's father, Brian Hegseth, also replied to El-Sayed's dig at the Defense Secretary's sports career. In an X post, Brian argued that El-Sayed had "no idea what he's talking about." He claimed that his son "was an absolute star on the court in HS."

Earlier this week, Nicki Minaj took aim at New York Governor Kathy Hochul in a series of posts on X. The Super Bass rapper called Hochul an "evil woman" and demanded that the Democratic Party "forfeit" her seat.
