“It was strangely OK”: Nick Lachey recalls running into ex-wife Jessica Simpson on a flight twenty years after divorce

As per a recent article by US Weekly, actor and singer Nick Lachey spoke about running into his ex-wife Jessica Simpson, around 20 years after their split.

On the May 13 episode of the Watch What Happens with Andy Cohen, Nick Lachey revealed that Jessica Simpson was in a flight to Hawaii with her mother, three children and estranged husband Eric Johnson when he ran into her. Lachey further mentioned that 'it was okay'.

"It was strangely OK”, Nick Lachey said on the podcast

He further revealed that everyone was cordial in the six hour flight and bumping into her ex-wife after 20 years was not an awkward experience. Nick was on the same flight with his current wife Venesa Lachey.

"You know, it’s been 20 years, and so we hadn’t seen each other in those 20 years and then spent six and a half hours on a flight to Hawaii together. When I say ‘spent,’ [I mean] in the same vicinity. Everyone was very cordial, very respectful.”

Since July 15, 2011, he and Vanessa Lachey have been wed. They are parents of three kids. Jessica Simpson was his former spouse.

Nick Lackhey and Jessica participated in the popular MTV reality series Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica. From 2002 to 2006, the two starred in the show, while being married. After splitting up in 2005, they got divorced the following year.

In her 2020 memoir, Open Book, Jessica discussed her relationship with Nick and said that Nick loved the fact that she was so strong in her faith and had a wide-eyed innocent approach to life.

"I accepted his proposal in 2002. We were young and leading the way in reality TV, constantly on camera. We were excellent at what we did when we were working, but we stopped being excellent when we were by ourselves", said Jessica

"We discussed music, and to feel like we were still together, I would listen to songs by Johnny Cash that he recommended. It's as though Johnny and I were pen friends in prison, two people who were prevented from being together by bars, our stardom, and our respective spouses despite our intense desire to be together."

Both of them have discussed the emotional toll that their widely reported divorce took on them. In her memoir Open Book, Simpson discussed the difficulties of moving on, while Nick Lachey talked of having "scars" from the breakup that had persisted.

With Simpson co-parenting her three children and Nick Lachey raising his three children with Vanessa, both are now preoccupied with their families and jobs. Lachey is married to Venesa Lachey, the two got married in 2011.
