“It took a really long time to diagnose me”: Erin Moriarty on why she asked ‘The Boys’ producers to get in touch with her doctors

Catapulted to mainstream fame after starring in Eric Kripke's hit TV series The Boys, Erin Moriarty has opened up about her health struggles during the production of the highly rated Prime Video original series and shared how she sought help from the show's producers when her health worsened.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Erin Moriarty, 32, who played Starlight, one of the good superheroes in the show, as opposed to the ones who were Homelander's (played by Antony Starr) puppets, was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called Graves' disease in June 2025, which is a disorder that affects the thyroid gland, causing physical and psychological issues.

The Miracle Season actress Erin Moriarty revealed that when her health condition began to deteriorate while she was filming for the show, she reached a point where she had to ask for help and support from the show's producers, permitting them to communicate with her doctors directly.

Moriarty, who made an appearance on the MeSsy podcast hosted by The Sopranos actress Jamie-Lynn Sigler on June 30, 2026, talked about her journey with Graves' disease and revealed how one of her friends advised her to get a blood test done after she sensed that something was wrong with her health. Erin said:

"As soon as I got blood work, they noticed something was off. And then that started into a whole other interesting experience because… It took a really long time to diagnose me, so then production started to become a little suspicious, but it's because I kept getting poked and tested for the wrong antibody."

While she shared how painful and distressing the entire experience was for her, Erin Moriarty stated that after a point she gave consent and full authorization to the show's producers so that they could directly talk to her doctors about her health condition. Moriarty, as she discussed struggling physically as well as mentally during that phase, went ahead and said:

"I eventually just gave production full medical allowance to be directly in touch with my doctors, because it got to a point where I was so ill. I was struggling to make phone calls, articulate myself. Everything sounded nonlinear. I was not cognitively present."

Amid her health crisis, Erin Moriarty says, "Thank God I was able to be present at all for this final season"

The Catching Dust star, Erin Moriarty, while talking about whether she was provided with any special facilities due to her health condition during the production, said:

"There were certain components of my character that would have been more pronounced throughout the season had I been able to show up for her."

Moriarty further added:

"And it's funny, because the one episode where I had started treatment and I was fully present for is the episode that I'm the most in, which is the finale. And thank God I was able to be present at all for this final season. And thank God treatment has worked for me…. It doesn't work for everyone."

The last and final season of The Boys was released in April 2026.
