Jaime King speaks out following Taylor Swift wedding invite snub, says singer being godmother to her kids has “nothing to do with public appearance”

Jaime King has made headlines recently, as the forty-seven-year-old actress was notably absent from Taylor Swift's July 3 wedding to Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden. As per a report shared by Entertainment Weekly, King wasn't alone in sitting this one out. Swift's friends Miles and Keleigh Teller, along with Kelce's friend Will Compton, also skipped the big day.

Jaime King's no-show, though, is a different story altogether. Taylor Swift is the godmother of King's ten-year-old son, Leo Thames, a bond that made the Black Summer actress's absence from the ceremony hard to ignore. King's publicist Jane Owen spoke to Page Six on Wednesday, clearing the air.

"The reason Jaime chose Taylor as Leo Thames's godmother is because they both believe that being a godmother is a deeply personal and spiritual commitment that has nothing to do with public appearances," explained Owen.

On the question of why King and Leo skipped the wedding itself, Owen was straightforward.

"Leo Thames is still too young for a large adult wedding celebration, but he and his mother were able to joyfully celebrate Taylor and Kelce's marriage in his own very special, age-appropriate way during his summer break," Owen added.

Jaime King opens up about what made Taylor Swift the right godmother for her son:

King and Taylor Swift first met at a Golden Globes party back in 2014, and the friendship moved fast enough that King eventually asked Swift to be godmother to her son Leo, who she shares with ex-husband Kyle Newman. King opened up to People in 2020 and even touched on what the role of godparent meant to her personally.

"For me, choosing a godparent is a very sacred experience," she shared.

King was insistent it had nothing to do with Taylor Swift's celebrity status, explaining that

"It wasn't because it was this person and the name. It was really because of her morals and her values, the way that she treats people and how hard-working she is … her family and how close she is to them," she explained.

"I see what she gives out there to her fans and to her family. That's the kind of person I want to be the guide and the spiritual protector of my child," she added.

King also reflected on what she felt the godparent bond was really about at its core, sharing that

"You know it doesn't matter where you come from or who you are or what you do."

Jaime King and Taylor Swift's friendship cooled but their bond over Leo never did:

As per a report shared by Page Six in March 2025, King had slowly drifted from Swift's famous girl squad, even as the singer remained godmother to young Leo. A source close to King spoke to the US Sun, giving a candid picture of where things stood between the two women.

"Taylor and Jaime are not close anymore and don't talk, but there is still love," the source shared.

The insider was quick to point out, though, that Taylor Swift had never loosened her grip on her responsibilities toward Leo. She still sends gifts on special occasions and would show up for him without a second thought if it came to that. On what kind of godmother Taylor Swift had been, the source didn't hold back.

"She has always taken her godmother role and duties very seriously and is the most caring and thoughtful person Jaime could've asked to be there for Leo," shared the source.

"Their relationship is a lot different now than it was back when Jaime asked Taylor to be his godmother. There is no regular contact," added the source.

King's now ex-husband Kyle Newman also directed Swift's 2015 Style music video.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's road to Madison Square Garden began with a playful Instagram post:

Swift and Kelce first announced their engagement back in August 2025, and they did it in a way that was very much on brand for the pair. The post read,

"Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married."

The wedding itself was every bit as grand. Over a thousand guests attended the ceremony at Madison Square Garden on Friday, and the night kicked off with a rehearsal dinner that was just as star-studded. At around 7:30 p.m., the Garden's exterior lit up with pink digital screens that read

"JUST&T MARRIED!"

Swift's longtime publicist Tree Paine, who attended the wedding, confirmed to Page Six that the Love Story singer walked down the aisle in a Christian Dior haute couture gown. Adam Sandler officiated the ceremony and Austin Swift served as his sister's man of honor, while Jason Kelce stepped up as his brother's best man.
