Jared Leto has refuted sexual assault charges made in the BBC documentary Jared Leto: Hollywood's Dark Secret, claiming they are "absolutely and categorically false." The actor and Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman made a statement via his spokespersons on Wednesday, July 29, shortly after the documentary aired.According to the BBC, the women reported meeting Leto between 2002 and 2016, when the actor and singer, now 54, was in his 30s and 40s. The media outlet stated that it confirmed a number of the women's allegations through interviews with friends and family members they had confided in at the time.In certain instances, it also analyzed images, messages, and other documents that it claimed confirmed some aspects of their statements.What allegations are made against Jared Leto in the BBC documentary?The documentary includes interviews with ten women, four of whom make accusations that, if confirmed, might be considered criminal sexual conduct. The women, who go by pseudonyms, relate several claimed experiences with Leto over 14 years.One woman claims Leto sexually attacked her in a motel toilet in 2002, when she was 17 years old.Another claims to have had sex with Leto at his California house when she was 17. According to the documentary, she claimed that Leto rejected concerns about California's age of consent, which would classify sexual conduct with a 17-year-old as statutory rape. The alleged woman said:“He told me, ‘I would like you to call me daddy. And it was either pretend to be a little girl or ‘my little girl.'”She added:“It was only as time went on that I realized more and more how scary that really was.”She continued to explain how Leto rejected concerns about California's age of consent:“It wasn’t a huge concern for him. There is no well-adjusted man in his 30s who’s going to look at a teenager and think… ‘she would be a great partner.'”A third woman claims Leto groomed her when she was 16 by routinely making sexually explicit phone calls and, at least once, urging they have sex. She also claims that she was later handed a non-disclosure agreement (NDA), which she declined to sign. The BBC stated that it reviewed the claimed NDA.Another woman claims she was threatened with sexual assault after being abruptly left alone with Leto in a hotel room when she was 19.One of the alleged victims said:"This was 25 years ago… he has gotten away with it."The documentary also features interviews with two men who have worked with Thirty Seconds to Mars for numerous years. They claimed that staff members were uneasy with the age gap between Leto and some of the girls he associated with, and that he would occasionally invite underage girls backstage to his dressing room or the house where he was recording. One of the staff members said:"I think everyone thought the age gap was way too big."These accounts are part of the documentary's research but are not considered criminal allegations.Jared Leto responds to the allegationsJared Leto refuted every accusation in a brief statement through his representatives, telling Loudwire:"I have never sexually assaulted anyone in my entire life. These claims are absolutely and categorically false."The statement came shortly after the documentary was released. According to the BBC, Leto did not react to numerous requests for comment before the documentary's airing.This is not the first time that the actor and Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman has been accused. In 2025, Los Angeles DJ Allie Teilz openly alleged that Jared Leto sexually abused her when she was 17.
