Jelly Roll says he’ll continue to “speak his truth” amid criticism over Trump Jokes

The Box Me Up rapper-turned-country singer, Jelly Roll, who recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, received criticism from his fans after he took a dig and made fun of President Donald Trump's weight.

According to HuffPost, Jelly Roll, 41, during the August 25, 2026, episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! called out Trump for being fat and then, through a montage, showed how the President made fun of or commented on numerous other people for being fat.

While he doubled down on making fun of President Trump, Jelly Roll addressed how numerous MAGA supporters were not quite happy with his remarks as they slammed him. During Kimmel's talk show, the Empty House singer, regarding the recent backlash he faced, said:

"You know what? I did a couple of jokes like that last night in case y’all didn’t hear about it, and it’s because I’m hosting a damn late-night show. That’s where you talk about the news and you make jokes. But I guess apparently because I did it, it really messed with people’s heads."

Jelly continued and said:

It was the "weirdest thing he’s ever done to stun people. Who would have guessed I’d get in more trouble with the president than Rosie O’Donnell?"

While Jelly mentioned that it was primarily conservatives and MAGA supporters who were upset and took offence at his remarks towards Donald Trump, as they thought his comments disrespected the President, Jelly Roll added:

"Let’s be honest for a second. Any U.S. president should be able to handle a few jokes, right? They should also be able to handle gas prices, healthcare, and the occasional international conflict."

The Nashville musician, Jelly Roll, who was catapulted to fame in 2022, made it quite clear that he would continue to "speak his truth" as it would not matter to him if people stopped consuming his music.

Despite being perceived as a conservative, Jelly Roll said, "I have no political alliance"

While in the past, Jelly Roll has often been considered a conservative or even a MAGA supporter, the Somebody Save Me singer has always claimed that he has never had any political connection to any political figure or party. In 2024, while providing testimony regarding the fentanyl crisis to Congress, Jelly said:

"It is important to establish earlier that I am a musician and that I have no political alliance."

He further added:

"I am neither Democrat nor Republican. In fact, because of my past, my right to vote has been restricted. Thus far, I have never paid attention to a political race in my life. Ironically, I think that makes me the perfect person to speak about this."
