How did Josh Grisetti die? Cause of death revealed as Broadway mourns beloved performer and 'Marvelous Mrs. Maisel' star

Josh Grisetti, a beloved performer known for his work on Broadway and off-Broadway, has died at the age of 44.

According to social media posts by fellow actors Rob McClure and Sierra Boggess, the actor died on July 10, Friday.

In her Instagram post, actress Sierra Boggess paid homage to the actor, and also mentioned Josh Grisetti's cause of death.

"It is with the deepest grief that I am sharing with you that our beloved friend Josh Grisetti took his own life on Friday morning. Nothing I can say will make this hurt any less. We all loved him so unbelievably much. He created light and thought and humor everywhere he went."

She went on:

"I loved the way he looked at the world and how he challenged ideals and norms. I loved his humor and his brain and deep, deep philosophical conversations. Our It Should Have Been You family was as close as can be and this is so heartbreaking I will be processing with the show family and all of you for a very long time. And all the other show families he made along the way."

Sierra Boggess managed to insert pieces of herself along with the actor and their colleagues within the industry.

Rob McClure has written an emotional message to Josh Grisetti as well, stating that he had been the best man at the wedding of Grisetti, while adding that his death was "cataclysmic."

"Some of my all-time favorite memories were by this man's side, playing his brother onstage for years, watching him inspire students while transforming the Musical Theatre program at Cal State Fullerton …and having the honor of being the Best Man at his wedding."

McClure continued:

"Maggie and I are beyond heartbroken. Communities around the world will never be the same without him. We love you, Josh."

Josh Grisetti: Career and legacy explored

Josh Grisetti is famous for his talent for comedy and impressive stage shows. He got his initial acclaim in New York when he appeared on the stage in the play Enter Laughing with the York Theatre Company in 2008.

For this role, Grisetti received a Theatre World Award and was nominated by several other theatre award associations.

Originally, he was supposed to make his Broadway debut playing Eugene Jerome in the revival of Neil Simon's Broadway Bound but the play got cancelled before its opening.

In 2015, Grisetti made his first Broadway appearance as Marty Kaufman in It Shoulda Been You, which earned him additional nominations, such as recognition from the Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle. He also received a Clarence Derwent Award.

Grisetti also appeared as Nigel Bottom in the musical Something Rotten! and reprised the role on its national tour.

In addition to acting, , Grisetti developed a highly successful career as a director and teacher as well. Most recently, he had been directing a production of Legally Blonde for the Trentino Music Festival before stepping away from the project for personal reasons.
