Mark Mortimer, the actor best known for playing Nick Hudson on the NBC soap opera Another World, has died at age 59 after a battle with cancer.

The 90s star died on Sept. 23, according to an obituary his family wrote and Moss-Norris Funeral Home in St. Charles, Illinois, published online. His family said he died surrounded by the people he loved most after what they described as a fearless journey with cancer.

“He was an Army veteran, a model, an actor, an entrepreneur and a builder. He was a husband, father, son, brother and friend. He was curious and determined, willing to take chances, start something new, change direction and figure things out along the way.”

The statement went on:

“Of all the titles Mark held throughout his life, the two that mattered most to him were husband and dad.”

The family didn’t publicly disclose what type of cancer Mark Mortimer had, although, according to reports, he was diagnosed in 2024.

Mark Mortimer’s marriage with Christie, family, and foundation he launched with his wife

He is survived by his wife, Christie, and daughter, Hunter; his parents, Sharlene Pearson, and Emil (Belinda) Mortimer; alongside his siblings and extended family.

The pair first met at Hunter Mountain in New York in 2000, and they tied the knot a year later. Mark Mortimer and Christie went on to share 25 years of marriage. After 11 years, they welcomed their firstborn and named her Hunter.

Mortimer’s obituary also honored his marriage of over two decades to Christie.

“What followed was 25 years of marriage, adventure, hard work, laughter, faith, risk-taking, reinvention and a love that grew deeper through every season. Together, Mark and Christie built a life that was uniquely theirs. They moved from New York to Chicago to Los Angeles and back to Chicagoland again.”

Mark Mortimer joined Another World in 1996 as Nick Hudson, becoming the third actor to portray the character. Justin Chambers and Kevin McClatchy had previously played the role.

He appeared in a total of 81 episodes of the long-running daytime drama through 1999, when Another World ended its 35-year run on NBC.

The actor and model joined the series during a time when daytime soap operas remained a major part of television programming, and his portrayal of Nick Hudson made him familiar to viewers in the show's final years.

In the wake of his 2024 cancer diagnosis, Mark Mortimer turned adversity into action by founding the Integrative Access Foundation alongside his wife.

Their mission is to ensure that cost is not a barrier for cancer patients seeking supportive integrative therapies. The lengthy tribute stated:

“What began in the middle of their own difficult journey became a mission of hope for other families.”
