Conservative political commentator Matt Walsh dismissed Ayanna Pressley's argument that Black women are the "backbone" of the American economy.Massachusetts Congress member Ayanna Pressley recently spoke at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation's 55th Annual Legislative Conference, where she stressed the importance of Black women in society. On September 26, Pressley posted a clip from the event on X and wrote:"Black women are the backbone of our economy and we all benefit from their essential contributions to our workforce & communities. By pushing Black women out of our economy, everyone is being denied their brilliance and intellectual capital."On September 28, Daily Wire host Matt Walsh reacted to Pressley's post and contested her claim. In his tweet, the podcaster commented:"This of course is bulls**t. The vast majority of Black women are either on welfare or working for the government. Virtually none of the pioneers, inventors, entrepreneurs, and business leaders who built this country were Black women. And that still holds true today. They are in no sense of the term 'the backbone' of our economy. A hugely disproportionate percentage of them can’t even support themselves, much less hold the entire nation on their shoulders."Matt Walsh further said that Democrats would continue to make such claims but Republicans would not praise White men in such a way. Walsh said:"But consider the fact that Democrats will speak this way about black women — spinning up a whole mythology with Black women at the center of it — but Republicans would never in a million years say this, or anything like it, about white men. Even though, in the case of white men, it would actually be true."Ayanna Pressley says Trump's policies are "hitting" Black communities the "hardest"On September 20, Rep. Ayanna Pressley posted a clip from her address at ALC 55, in which she spoke about unemployment in the Black community. Alongside the video, she wrote:"Trump’s affordability crisis and pushout of Black workers is hitting Black communities the hardest."During her speech at CBCF's ALC, Pressley said that the current state of the American economy is "failing Black women" and "failing Black futures." The congresswoman said:"From the price of groceries and housing and gas just to get to work, we feel the pain in our bank accounts. And that hurt is only compounded by high unemployment that disproportionately impacts Black workers. The last hired, first fired, even when we are the most qualified."Ayanna Pressley quoted the latest employment numbers and mentioned that the national unemployment rate for white workers stood at 3.7%, whereas it was 6% for Black workers."They want us to believe that this is fine, par for the course. Black suffering seems like a status quo, so we should be used to it. But it's not fine. And these aren't just national economic statistics. These are lives," Pressley said.Earlier this month, incumbent Ayanna Pressley secured her victory in the Democratic primary.
