Bill Lee, the state governor of Tennessee, is planning on renaming the Nashville International Airport in memory of country music star Dolly Parton after her death at 80.On Friday, Aug. 28, he has reached out to the Dolly Parton's camp who were grateful for the outpour of love and support towards the legendary star."Dolly Parton's extraordinary life is forever woven into the fabric of our state. At a place where Tennessee welcomes the world, it is fitting that Nashville International Airport would bear the name of our state's favorite daughter and greet travelers with the enduring legacy of Dolly's music, generosity, faith, and kindness."Dolly Parton - Source: GettyBill Lee added that an airport welcoming visitors from around the world would be a fitting place to honor Dolly Parton and her contributions.This initiative is part of the revival of a recent online campaign requesting the naming of the airport after the icon.Launched in January 2025, the proposal has since gained significant attention after her passing, collecting nearly 160,000 signatures as of the evening of the 28th.The petition described the proposed renaming as a way to share Dolly Parton's "light and magic" with Tennessee and the rest of the world.At the moment, there are still some things that have to take place for the recommendation to become official, such as the Sept. 17 meeting of the Metro Nashville Airport Authority where it will be discussed.
