Perez Hilton held in hospital under Baker Act, will need surgery following injuries sustained during livestream 

Perez Hilton has made headlines this week after he appeared to self-harm during a livestream from his Miami home. As per a report shared by People, the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office confirmed authorities were called to the scene on Aug. 4 following reports of a suicide attempt. His family has since released a statement. Published on PerezHilton.com, the statement pushed back on reporting that had been circulating since the incident.

"There are many false and inaccurate reports circulating in the media regarding Perez and the circumstances surrounding this situation," they began.

His family added that Perez Hilton remains hospitalized under Florida's Baker Act. The law allows authorities or medical professionals to hold someone for psychiatric evaluation.

"His communication has been extremely limited and confined to immediate family, medical providers and others directly involved in his care. He has not communicated with the media or issued any public statements," they continued.

His family also confirmed that only statements published directly on PerezHilton.com should be considered credible.

Perez Hilton faces surgery and long recovery as family pleads with media to respect his children's privacy:

In their latest update, Hilton's family confirmed that his condition, while serious, has stabilized. That being said, his road ahead is far from simple.

"He experienced significant blood loss and sustained additional injuries that will require surgery in the coming days," his family shared.

They also added that "his treatment and recovery will be a long process."

Hilton's family did note one positive development, sharing that Hilton was able to spend time with his mother and sister. His family also made clear that their focus remains entirely on his recovery.

"We are focused on Perez's treatment and recovery," they said.

"we also need the space and privacy to care for everyone affected by this situation," they added.

As per the statement, his family also addressed the media presence outside the family home directly.

"There is absolutely no reason for members of the media or the public to remain outside the family's home. We again respectfully ask members of the media to leave the home and surrounding area, stop following family members, and cease photographing Perez's children," they wrote.

His family also asked photo agencies not to purchase, publish, or distribute any photographs of the children that may have been taken. His loved ones also pointed to a long-standing policy on PerezHilton.com, where the website has maintained a no kids policy, refraining from publishing photographs of children unless they are attending a public event or their family has chosen to make those photographs public on social media. His family asked for the same courtesy to be extended to his own children.

Perez Hilton's family also addressed the wellbeing of his three children, Mario, who is thirteen years old, Mia, who is eleven years old, and Mayte, who is eight years old, all of whom live in Miami, where they recently relocated to be closer to his mother, Teresita Lavandeira.

"Perez's children remain safe and are being cared for by immediate family," his family shared.

They were also pleading with the public to

"allow them and the rest of the family the peace and privacy they desperately need during this incredibly difficult time."

His loved ones also revealed a detail that painted a clearer picture of just how close his children were to the incident. Hilton's children, niece and sister were home just minutes before his livestream began. As per the statement, when it became apparent that he was "experiencing a severe mental health crisis and harming himself," they "immediately fled" the property.

That being said, an earlier update shared on Aug. 5 had offered his supporters a small measure of relief. His family stated at the time that Hilton was "able to communicate," a development which had left them with "hope." Representatives for Hilton also released a statement that same day, though they noted they did not

"have any additional confirmed information to share regarding Perez Hilton's condition."
