On September 1, Piers Morgan gave a three-word reaction after Keir Starmer announced that he is stepping down as MP for Holborn and St Pancras. The former UK Prime Minister stepped aside after 11 years in office. He also shared new focus areas in his statement.

The British commentator responded to Keir Starmer’s decision as:

“The final U-turn.”

In his statement, Starmer said that he took this decision after reflecting on his future. He wrote that he will hand over his position to a successor.

“Over the summer, I have had time to reflect and consider my future. I have decided that now is the right time to step down as MP for Holborn and St Pancras and hand the baton over to a successor. It's been an honour and privilege to represent the best constituency in the country since taking over from the great Frank Dobson 1l years ago.”

He went on to say that he will continue working towards international affairs, trade, technology, and women safety. Keir Starmer wrote:

“But it is now time to step aside and focus on other issues: international affairs including defence, security, trade and technology in a fast changing world. I will also continue working with others as I have done over many decades to tackle violence against women and girls.”

He also looked back on his tenure and how he worked on concerns like affordable housing, education, and more.

“I look back with pride on what my constituency team and I have delivered in Holborn and St Pancras since 2015 and I thank all those who I was privileged to work with on so many issues of local concern: affordable housing projects, delivering first class education and tackling youth violence through our Camden Youth Safety Taskforce.

Lastly, Keir Starmer wrote that a process will now begin to choose his successor before a by-election. He assured that he will fully support and back whoever is chosen as the Labour candidate. Additionally, he will continue to fully support the Prime Minister and the Labour government.

Piers Morgan also reacted to Keir Starmer’s resignation as UK PM

Earlier on June 22, Piers Morgan reacted to Starmer’s resignation as the UK’s Prime Minister. The broadcaster said that Keir didn’t know how to run the country. He called it a ‘sad’ end to Starmer’s tenure. Piers Morgan wrote:

“Keir Starmer cries as he resigns as UK Prime Minister. Sad end to a dismal tenure. Never seen such a big election win end in such abject failure so fast. Bottom line: he wanted power but didn’t know how to lead the country. He was the ultimate man without a plan.”

Keir Starmer assumed his office as the UK’s Prime Minister in July 2024, and he left his position in July this year. Andy Burnham took over the office as PM after Starmer.
