Donald Trump endorsed Benjamin Netanyahu for the Israeli elections on Zohran Mamdani's birthday. Far-right political commentator Laura Loomer reacted to this endorsement, writing that POTUS was 'a comedian'.

The Israeli elections are set to be held in late October, which will determine who will be the country's next Prime Minister. Benjamin Netanyahu is the current Prime Minister and is in the running to retain his position. He also held the post between 1996 and 1999 and between 2009 and 2021. However, Gadi Eisenkot is his prime challenger for the post this year.

Amid this, the USA President Donald Trump endorsed Israel's current Prime Minister via a post on Truth Social on Sunday, October 18. It was, notably, the same day as New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani's birthday, as Laura Loomer pointed out in an X (formerly Twitter) post, writing:

"Today is @ZohranKMamdani’s birthday. President Trump chose today to announce his endorsement of @netanyahu. @POTUS is a comedian."

This comes after Mamdani's comments against Netanyahu in recent years. During his election campaign, he labeled Netanyahu a "war criminal", speaking against Israel's actions in Gaza.

In September this year, New York City hosted the UN General Assembly, and the Israeli Prime Minister also gave a speech. Ahead of his arrival, Mamdani said that he wasn't welcome in the city and said in a video:

“Benjamin Netanyahu is a war criminal, the architect of a horrific genocide against the Palestinian people."

He had initially said that he wanted to arrest Netanyahu, but said that he didn't have the jurisdiction to do so. He added:

“The federal government, however, does and I call on them to join the ICC and execute this warrant. And I want to be equally clear: Benjamin Netanyahu is not welcome in New York City, nor is any other war criminal at large.”

Mamdani also said that Netanyahu "belongs in The Hague."

Earlier this month, Donald Trump had avoided speaking positively about Netanyahu for the upcoming Israeli elections. According to CNN, he told reporters that he didn't "trust anybody in the world of politics.” He also said that he wasn't involved in Israeli politics.

However, on Sunday, the POTUS shared a post on Truth Social, endorsing Netanyahu. He wrote:

"Bibi Netanyahu has been a Great Warrior Prime Minister, and an even greater Partner for Peace in combatting the Islamic Republic of Iran... Bibi Netanyahu has been Strong, Brave, and Brilliant in the face of tremendous opposition, including that coming from even Israel, itself. Despite all of that, he has endured and, in fact, he has thrived!"

He added that normal people would have "wilted under the pressure", but Bibi did not. He wrote that it was his "Complete and Total Endorsement" for Bibi, adding that he would never let people of Israel down.

Trump also wrote that this is the "kind of partner" that the US would want as well. Bibi Netanyahu, meanwhile, thanked the POTUS for his endorsement on X, writing that Israel "never had a greater friend in the White House."
