Drake has responded to being called a “professional trick,” explaining why he enjoys spending money on other people and saying he doesn’t expect anything in return.

The Passionfruit rapper addressed the criticism in a statement, saying he finds personal satisfaction in seeing people experience unexpected moments of happiness.

“There’s a return on investment in your soul for doing things for people who you feel deserve it. Whether you feel that way in the moment and they prove otherwise over time or it’s a gesture to acknowledge consistent love and loyalty the difference is there isn’t an expectation on the other side.”

Drake explained that his gestures toward others aren't always based on the same circumstances.

He also stressed that he doesn't expect intimacy or another form of repayment after giving someone a gift or doing something generous.

He also acknowledged his financial position, saying he is aware he has been fortunate enough to accumulate an “obscene amount of money.”

After experiencing the happiness that material possessions have brought him, he said seeing other people enjoy unexpected gifts has become another source of fulfillment.

“It’s self awareness that you have been blessed with an obscene amount of money and joy is the emotion that excites you the most. So once you have experienced enough joy from material things for yourself sometimes the only way is to see the joy on faces after unexpected gestures for others.”

Drake then drew a distinction between generosity and relationships based on an expectation of intimacy.

“Transactional exchanges with the expectation of intimacy are a different frequency.”

Drake’s comments come after Victoria Monét’s recent interview with Complex Music’s Jillian Superstar, in which she talked about her new album, Frequency of Love. In the conversation, the two agreed that Drake is a "professional trick" and a "trickster master."

What’s going on between Drake, Bruno Mars, and Karol G?

In other news, Drake has responded to Karol G starring in Bruno Mars’ latest music video, Dance With Me.

The Gorilla hitmaker recently quipped about taking the Colombian singer-songwriter back from Drake after he made a surprise guest appearance during Karol G’s concert in Houston.

The two performed their collaborative track Ahí (from her album No Me Arrepiento de Sentir Tanto). Clips of the two dancing closely onstage during a performance of Drake's hit One Dance quickly went viral.

Following the performance, Bruno Mars took to his social media to give Drake a playful shout-out.

“When you see Drake dancing with your latina crush in 4k @karolg @champagnepapi Respond to me asap!! I have to get her back! I must get her back! I will get her back!"

Then, on Oct. 1, Bruno released Dance With Me, a track off his chart-topping new album, The Romantic.

The MV was a cinematic, Romeo and Juliet-inspired video starring Karol G as his direct love interest, complete with Mars serenading her under a balcony before she leaps into his arms.

Drake didn’t hold back in commenting, leaving a message for Bruno on Instagram:

"Holy this guy works fast"
