On September 16, Robert Kraft released a statement announcing his decision to join Ed Sheeran in his $2 million donation to fight ‘this humanitarian crisis.’ The Gillette Stadium owner came out with his statement shortly after Macklemore urged the billionaire to match his $1 million donation for Palestinians.Even though Robert Kraft pledged a total of $4 million with Ed Sheeran, it remains unclear to whom this donation will go as of this writing.In his statement, Robert shared that Ed Sheeran also asked him to match his $2 million donation. He wrote:“I have dedicated much of my life to building bridges between all people. I believe deeply that all lives are worth protecting. Earlier today, before Macklemore challenged me to match his donation, Ed called me and asked me to commit $2 million to match his donation to aid in the region to fight this humanitarian crisis. Ed now plans to reach out to other venue owners, and our goal is to continue to work together to build bridges.”Kraft further highlighted the past efforts he made to support Palestinian people. He wrote:“In addition, I’d like the people who are speaking in support of the Palestinian people to know that for decades, I have supported efforts that create opportunity for Palestinians and have brought young Palestinians and Israelis together to build businesses, create jobs, and forge relationships.”Macklemore urged Robert Kraft to donate $1 million as he didBefore Robert Kraft’s announcement, Macklemore shared a post on his social media where he pledged his net earnings from Ed Sheeran’s tour for the Palestinian cause. He also called for the billionaire to match his donation. Macklemore wrote:“I will be donating the entire $1 million of my net earnings from Ed Sheeran's Loop Tour to six organizations working directly to support the Palestinian people. And I invite Robert Kraft to match my donation. Whatever we disagree about, perhaps we can agree on this: Palestinian lives are worth protecting. A Palestinian life is no less valuable than any other life on this earth.”He further added that it was never about the controversy but only about the people of Palestine.The Can’t Hold Us vocalist has been in the news lately for his controversial ‘Free Palestine’ chants on the stage of Ed Sheeran’s NJ shows. He faced major backlash, following which he was removed from the remainder of Ed’s tour. Robert Kraft also defended Macklemore’s removal from the tour and said he won’t tolerate ‘hate speech’ on his stage.After the rapper’s ban, other special guests of Ed’s upcoming shows withdrew from the tour to show their support with Macklemore.
