Scandal actress Kerry Washington, who famously played Olivia Pope on the ABC political thriller series, has endorsed Jon Ossoff for the senatorial race in Georgia.

On Thursday, Washington was seen wearing a white sweatshirt with the words “Ossoff” written on it, with the emblem of the United States Congress and dancing in a short clip while zooming in on the words “Vote early Georgia” floating on the screen. The Instagram post was captioned:

“The message is clear: VOTE EARLY GEORGIA! Polls are open on or before 10/30 or on 11/3.”

Tony Goldwyn, who played President Fitzgerald Grant on Scandal, reportedly endorsed Jon Ossoff via an email newsletter, the screenshot of which has now gone viral on Threads. The content read:

“Hi friends, it’s Tony Goldwyn. While I only played a President on TV, I know a real leader when I see one. And let me tell you, Jon Ossoff is exactly the kind of leader we need in the Senate right now.”

The email newsletter couldn’t be independently verified.

More about Jon Ossoff’s endorsement

For the 2026 Senate election in Georgia, Democratic incumbent Jon Ossoff is facing off against Mike Collins, the U.S. Representative for Georgia’s 10th congressional district.

In August, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that Ossoff was getting endorsed by Georgia Republicans, including Tifton Mayor Julie Smith, Toccoa City Commissioner and former Mayor Gail Fry, and Valdosta Mayor Scott James Matheson. They praised Jon’s approach to “constituent service” and his efforts to “steer federal resources” to South Georgia.

Smith told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that Jon Ossoff has been “very good to South Georgia.” She added:

“I'm a Republican, but there are times when a person exceeds the party. They go above and beyond.”

Matheson also echoed those sentiments. He told the outlet:

“I will take heat for this endorsement, and it doesn't matter. There's no way I can turn my back on this relationship.”

Gail Fry also told The New York Times, citing the $8.4 million federal grant Ossoff secured for natural gas infrastructure:

“We have gotten more support from Senator Ossoff than any other office that we’ve contacted. He calls us and says, ‘What do you need?’”

The endorsement followed allegations that Mike Collins’ campaign had connections to White nationalist and antisemitic figures. Collins denied the accusations.

Former Republican Senator from Arizona, Jeff Flake, also endorsed Ossoff around this time. He told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that Jon’s “character, constituent work, and respect for the institution” were far more important than their political differences. Flake also reminded everyone that Collins refused to acknowledge Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential victory.

On Sunday, former President Barack Obama wrote on social media that he would be campaigning in Georgia for Jon Ossoff and others for the 2026 midterm election.

“Georgia! I'll be in Atlanta on October 28 for a rally to support @KeishaforGA, @Ossoff, and Democrats fighting to make your life better,” Obama wrote.

Kerry Washington has previously endorsed former Atlanta Mayor and Democratic candidate Keisha Lance Bottoms for the 2026 Georgia gubernatorial race. Bottoms is competing against Republican nominee Rick Jackson.
