The Chinese-Canadian actor and Kim's Convenience star, Simu Liu, has lately been in the news after he defended Surface of Blood actor Hudson Williams amid a resurfaced photo controversy that is currently trending online.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Simu Liu came out in support of Williams after he faced criticism online when a photo, which still remains unsubstantiated, resurfaced on X (formerly Twitter), showing him as a teen boy with a swastika symbol drawn on his forehead.
While the 25-year-old Hudson Williams has been a frequent target of criticism, this time Simu Liu spoke out in his defense after an unverified photo began circulating online, sparking controversy.
Simu Liu, 37, in order to defend Williams, who was catapulted to mainstream fame after starring in Jacob Tierney's highly rated TV series Heated Rivalry, took to Threads and shared a post mentioning Hudson's recent controversy, which he reportedly claimed showed a specific kind of hatred towards actors of color. Liu wrote in his post:
"I have this very specific trauma attached to people on the internet fabricating things about me and twisting things into a massive hate campaign when I first broke out."
He continued:
"I began to recognize patterns whenever people of colour specifically had a moment of visibility."
Liu went ahead and added:
"It happened like clockwork and I see it happening now. The internet is insane. Bad actors are everywhere. If you're here, be careful. Be smart."
As per Entertainment Weekly, Simu Liu, in a different post, criticized and called out a particular news outlet for its coverage of Hudson Williams' recent controversy. He wrote on Threads:
"For an organization that has become synonymous with clickbait to never grow, never evolve, never have a moment of self awareness, and just carry on publishing vile sensationalist bullshit like this is just sad. stop picking on people of colour for absolutely nothing. no wonder your IPO failed so miserably. you’re on par with TMZ at this point."
As Hudson Williams has not addressed or made any official comment regarding the ongoing controversy surrounding the unverified photograph that is circulating on social media, a source close to Hudson informed TMZ that he had no clue about what had been drawn on his face or forehead when he was a teenager. As cited by Entertainment Weekly, TMZ reported that the source informed that the viral photo was taken while he was at a campout in Kamloops, Canada.
As Simu Liu defends the Heated Rivalry star amid the resurfaced photo controversy, Hudson Williams opens up about receiving hate online

As the recent controversy continues, people have previously attacked Hudson's personal life, raising questions about his sexuality as well. However, during a January interview with Wonderland magazine, Williams spoke about the hatred and criticism he receives online, and said:
"I didn't think there would be as many disrespectful people as there are. And vice versa, I didn't think there would be as many respectful people as there are."
Hudson went ahead and said:
I thought everyone would just be screaming, nice, or kind of like, 'Oh my God'. But there are people who are like, 'No, let's be respectful to him and his private life. Let's not share these photos. When we approach him on the street, let's be mindful of appropriate times.' I'm seeing those comments, and that's cool. But then there are disrespectful people who are just like, 'F--- that guy.' And I'm like, holy s---. Why are people hating on me? There's also all this fake news about me. And I'm like, 'How do I already have fake news?'"
