South Park has a new name, at least according to creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone.On Tuesday, Sept. 8, they announced that they are renaming the long-running animated series SOUTH AMERICA, poking fun at recent efforts to add “America” to the names of geographic locations.In a statement, Trey Parker and Matt Stone revealed:“Inspired by the bravery and patriotism of Apple and Google, we are changing the name of South Park to SOUTH AMERICA.”South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker - Source: GettyThe creators also took a shot at their parent company, Paramount, thanking the studio while calling it “a Skydance Capitulation.”Meanwhile, when asked how long the new name would remain in place, Trey Parker and Matt Stone offered a final declaration:“We are 100% committed to SOUTH AMERICA.”The jest follows Apple and Google changing the name of Lake Ontario to “Lake America” for users in the United States.The changes came after President Donald Trump ordered the name change amid tensions with Canada. MapQuest kept the original name and reportedly saw increased user interest as a result.The South Park announcement also references Trump’s earlier push to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America.
