Stefon Diggs is pushing back against his male sexual assault accuser's claims that the NFL star defamed him with a social media post, arguing he cannot be held liable for statements he maintains are true.

In newly filed court documents, the Washington Commanders wide receiver denied all allegations of wrongdoing in the lawsuit brought by Christopher Griffith.

Griffith previously claimed he was friends with Diggs and was flown to the athlete's Maryland home in May 2023 for a celebrity basketball game. He alleged Diggs drugged him and made unwanted advances despite his refusal.

Griffith also accused the NFL star of having associates beat him up a week later after he rejected those advances. Diggs has denied the allegations, including claims he made unwanted advances or arranged an attack.

He has instead accused Griffith of attempting to steal clothing from him, saying the incident led him to cut off contact.

Diggs initially sued Griffith in November 2025, alleging the accusations damaged his reputation. Griffith subsequently filed counterclaims, accusing the football player of defamation over a tweet posted after the lawsuit was filed.

In the post, Stefon Diggs wrote:

“Lying on my name because he got caught stealing.”

He also added:

“At the end when I prove this [redacted] a liar and a [redacted], then what?”

Christopher Griffith argued the statements were defamatory. In his latest filing, Stefon Diggs maintained his comments were truthful and argued he cannot face liability for speaking the truth.

The legal dispute remains ongoing. Neither the allegations nor the competing claims have been established in court.

Stefon Diggs and Christopher Griffith’s legal battle explained

Stefon Diggs and Christopher Griffith’s complex legal battle began on Oct. 1, 2025, when the Washington Commanders star first sued the latter for defamation, alleging the social media influencer fabricated claims for online clout after an encounter at Diggs' Maryland home in May 2023.

Griffith subsequently filed counterclaims, maintaining he was drugged with "laced candy" and subjected to non-consensual sexual advances before being physically attacked by Diggs’ associates a week later for rejecting the player.

Diggs, however, strongly denies the allegations, instead claiming that Griffith was cut off after attempting to steal clothing from him.

The ongoing discovery process recently intensified after a federal judge rejected Diggs’ use of the term "acquaintance" to describe their relationship, ordering the NFL star to provide a complete, non-evasive breakdown of their history and the events of that weekend.

Meanwhile, Griffith recently settled a separate $10 million civil lawsuit against Diggs' brother, Darez Diggs, which stemmed from the alleged retaliatory beatdown.
