Steven Tyler’s sexual assault trial to be reassigned as the supervising judge recuses herself from the lawsuit

Rock legend and frontman of Aerosmith, Steven Tyler's sexual assault case has taken a different turn as the trial has been paused for the time being after the LA County judge, Patricia A. Young, recused herself on September 15, 2026.

According to People, both parties in Steven Tyler's sexual assault case were informed by the court on September 14 about the unexpected turn of events. They were given a day to decide whether they wanted Judge Patricia to remain on the case.

According to Happy Mag, Steven Tyler's court case stemmed from a lawsuit filed against him by Julia Misley in December 2022 after she reportedly accused the Love in an Elevator singer of sexually assaulting her when she was in her teens back in the 1970s.

Misley has also reportedly alleged that Tyler sexually battered her. As per People, other court filings stated that Julia and Steven reportedly engaged in sexual intercourse in a California hotel when she was sixteen years old in 1974. Steven Tyler has denied all allegations by Julia Misley.

However, according to People, lawyers for both parties have been notified and ordered to show up before Lawrence Riff, the Supervising Judge in LA's Stanley Mosk Courthouse, on September 18, 2026, as Tyler's sexual assault case needs to be reassigned.

The lawyers and Judge Lawrence will convene regarding the reassignment and to make a decision about whether the case is ready to be pushed to trial. As per People, a jury trial has been set for September 28, 2026, which is supposed to stretch for a week or more.

Steven Tyler's lawyer described the dismissal of most of the claims by Julia Misley as "a massive win" for the Aerosmith lead singer

According to People, while the majority of the accusations made by Julia Misley against Steven Tyler were dismissed by the court in April 2026, his lawyer, David Long-Daniels, called it "a massive win" for the 78-year-old rockstar. Tyler's attorney at the time said:

"Today, the Court has dismissed with prejudice 99.9% of the claims against Mr. Tyler in this case. The court has decided that only one night, fifty-plus years ago, out of a three year relationship is allowed to remain. We look forward to trying this case on Aug 31."
