Taylor Swift reveals how she copes with the ups and downs of fame as she reflects on her music career

On August 24, the Grammys Museum released an interview with Taylor Swift, titled The Icon Sessions, where she reflected on her beginnings and coping mechanisms as a music artist.

Taylor Swift said that she likes making music for her fans and those who look up to it as a way to cope, as she did in her life.

“| realized that like I'm making music because I'm playing for the fans. I'm I'm putting this out for people who care about it and who look to music as a way to cope with their life in the way that I did. And I um I think that if you can actually go through all those checkpoints and realize that putting out music you've made that you love so much is not the path to universal validation, if you're still doing it, then you love it for the right reasons.” Taylor said.

During her fifty-minute conversation, the Fate of Ophelia vocalist also shared how she deals with the ups and downs of her fame. Taylor Swift playfully said that sometimes it’s fun to mock people when they mock you.

“Sometimes when people are mocking me, it's really fun to mock them back. Sometimes I like to just use words that they have to look up in order to talk about.” Taylor said.

She went on to open up about her coping mechanisms when she feels her creativity is blocked while sitting in a studio. Taylor Swift shared that she reminds herself she could have left music anytime, but she is excited about her choice to pursue it every day.

“But I go through several processes and coping mechanisms that I've gone through over the years. And one of them is saying, "You chose this. You chose this every day. you could have opted out of this any day before it got unmanageably big.” Swift said.

The Bad Blood maker said that all the good and bad times are worth it if she can make music at the end.

“And I decided not to because I love it that much. And that's just where it begins and where it ends. And everything that comes with this ultimately is worth it as long as I get to still make music,” she added.

Swift also shared how the veteran singer, Faith Hill, inspired her music career. During the interview, Taylor said that she started her research on music as a career at the early age of 10. She said that after learning about how Faith Hill’s career changed significantly while performing at Nashville’s Bluebird Cafe, she set a goal to work hard and perform there.

Following this, Taylor began writing her own songs and playing different instruments. She also said that her music is about storytelling.
