Lisa Ann Walter is reflecting on her past with honesty. At 62, the actress says she regrets not fully valuing her body when she was younger. She shared her thoughts while attending the Avatar: Fire and Ash world premiere in Hollywood on Dec. 1.
During her conversation with People, Walter talked about how women saw themselves in the 1990s. She said it was a confusing time for body image. Even though she now looks back and sees that she was confident and healthy, she did not feel that way at the time.
Her comments have started a fresh discussion about how media pressure shaped women’s self-image in earlier decades. Today, Walter says she sees that period in a very different light.
Lisa Ann Walter looks back at body image in the 1990s

Lisa Ann Walter said that the 1990s made it difficult for women to feel confident about their bodies. She explained that women were often judged by narrow beauty standards. These standards affected how she saw herself.
She said, “It's so weird. The ‘90s were a weird time for women.” Looking back now, she admits that her confidence did not match reality. “Like, my figure was bangin’. I was 36-24-36. I was like hot … But back then, I didn't think of myself as that.”
At the time, she believed she did not fit the typical image of what was considered attractive in Hollywood.
“I thought of myself as ‘cute for a comic,’” she said.
Because of that mindset, she feels she has limited herself without meaning to.
Walter also made a light comment about her past choices.
“I should have just been … I should have done Playboy. That's what I should have done!”
She added with humor that there was a short period when she changed her style. “There were a couple years when I was very blonde and solidly tramped it up.”

Career growth and pride in today’s work

While she reflects on her early years, Lisa Ann Walter is focused on her current success. She is now working on season 5 of Abbott Elementary. The show continues to receive strong viewer support and industry praise.
Lisa Ann Walter said that promoting the show feels natural because she genuinely enjoys it.
“It's not a chore when you go out and you get to talk about a show that you would genuinely, first of all, enjoy [as a viewer].” She added, “I really like the show. I think it's funny.”
She also shared that the show’s impact makes her proud.
“It's not hard for me to drum up something to say about it because I think it does something good in this world,” she said.
She added that the cast and crew feel like family to her.
When asked about what is coming next on the show, Lisa Ann Walter teased changes but was careful with the details.
“Golly, there's a couple that we just shot that were a bit of a game changer for several episodes,” she said. “I would get in trouble with [creator and star] Quinta [Brunson] if I told you exactly what it was.”
She hinted that part of the story involves the character Jacob.
