Seedance 2.0 is a new AI video tool launched by TikTok's Chinese owner, ByteDance. It has recently come under fire for infringing copyright with its clips based on existing films and shows. In the latest news, SAG-AFTRA has put out a public statement via X, regarding some of the Seedance 2.0 content that is circulating online:“SAG-AFTRA stands with the studios in condemning the blatant infringement enabled by Bytedance's new AI video model Seedance 2.0. The infringement includes the unauthorized use of our members' voices and likenesses. This is unacceptable and undercuts the ability of human talent to earn a livelihood. Seedance 2.0 disregards law, ethics, industry standards and basic principles of consent. Responsible AI development demands responsibility, and that is nonexistent here.”Once the videos created using Seedance 2.0 went viral, including one in particular featuring facsimiles of Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, social media users were quick to react. One X user stated:“You’re not wrong, but the clock is ticking on your industry. It’s ticking on almost every industry. The world we all know is coming to an end.”Another X user added:“I can't understand people who intentionally use the likeness of actors, or anyone else, without their permission. AI is a great tool, but too many abuse it and thereby turn people against its use."One X user called for studios to take legal action:"They clearly used films to train their model. And are profiting from it. Someone needs to sue them into oblivion. Some of the people replying dont understand that there are artists that work on these films. It isn’t some corrupt producer. It’s a ton of really talented artists that put everything into what they create. Crafting their skills for years and putting countless hours into making something fo an audience."Finally, a last X user had a more pessimistic take:"ByteDance is Chinese. China doesn’t care about SAG-AFTRA, American copyright law, actor consent, or “industry standards.” They care about winning the AI race. This statement is righteous, but it’s shouting into the wind. Seedance 2.0 will keep training on whatever data it wants, and Beijing will applaud. Hollywood’s rules don’t apply there."Seedance 2.0, creators called out by HollywoodInterestingly, SAG-AFTRA was not the only US-based film industry body to vocalise its disdain for Seedance 2.0. The MPA shared that in a statement to the BBC that:"In a single day, the Chinese AI service Seedance 2.0 has engaged in unauthorised use of US copyrighted works on a massive scale."For reference, the MPA or Motion Picture Association is an American trade association representing all the major film studios based in the United States.Follow Soap Central for more!
