On September 15, AOC called out Robert Kraft and other stadium owners following Macklemore’s removal from Ed Sheeran’s Loop Tour over his ‘Free Palestine’ controversy. The Can’t Hold Us rapper has been in the news since his opening acts at Ed Sheeran’s New Jersey concerts on September 4 and 5. Macklemore faced backlash for his onstage calls to ‘Free Palestine.’Following criticism, the promoters of Ed Sheeran’s concert confirmed the rapper’s removal for the remaining dates. The American billionaire, Robert Kraft, defended Macklemore’s ban. The owner of Gillette Stadium said that he won’t allow his platform to be used for ‘hate speech.’While talking to Fox News, US Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took aim at Robert Kraft over the rapper’s ban. She said:“When you see what Robert Kraft did to line up all of the stadiums, to censor speech in that one specific way, it's become clear that this is not just about one music artist or two music artists.”AOC also called out other stadium owners who reportedly pressured promoters into removing Macklemore.“This is about how just a handful of stadium owners and the elite can prevent discussion of an entire massive issue, in this case, the genocide in Gaza,” AOC added.She went on to say that today some ‘elite’ people can control the entire career of an artist. AOC said:“But it doesn't stop there. It could be speaking out about any issue. You can now just get a handful of stadium owners to ensure that an entire person's career can be jeopardized if they speak out about any issue.”Candace Owens, Mehdi Hasan, and others showed support for Macklemore besides AOCMany other figures like Hasan Piker, Candace Owens, Mehdi Hasan, Marissa Bode, Hannah Einbinder, and more, came out in support of the rapper. Candace reshared a post on her X account with ‘Free Palestine’ and ‘Free Hollywood’ hashtags. Hasan Piker called Ed Sheeran a ‘coward’ for not defending his fellow artist. He wrote:“Ed Sheeran is a coward, he chose the pro genocide side. This is solidarity. For justice to prevail, we must always speak truth to power no matter the cost.”Mehdi Hasan defended the rapper, saying that it was an attack on his free speech.In related news, all other supporting acts on Sheeran’s tour, including Finneas, Beoga, Aaron Rowe, and Lukas Graham, pulled out of the tour to show support for the banned rapper.
