The Gates trailer showcases one of James Van Der Beek's last roles
The official trailer of The Gates is finally out on the internet. The video runs for two minutes and eight seconds and stars James Van Der Beek. It is one of his final acting roles. The film focuses on three friends who are heading to a party. This is where they come across a gated house, where they witness a murder committed by Pastor Jacob. That villainous role is portrayed by Beek as he emerges as the main antagonist.
The video then showcases several moments as the boys try to escape the area. Beek's character ends the video by saying, "You see what happens when people get in my way."
Burr issued a statement after Van Der Beek's passing. It read,
“We were incredibly fortunate to have worked with him on this film. He brought experience and perspective to the role, and he built profound relationships with his fellow cast members and with the crew. And while he was deeply dedicated to his performance as the flawed, amoral antagonist of our story, between scenes he effortlessly morphed back into the grounded, charming conversationalist he was at his core.”
Burr added,
“His words were filled with energy and punctuated with exclamation points even as his health must have been in decline.”
On February 11, 2026, Van Der Beek died at the age of 48. The actor was diagnosed with colorectal cancer back in 2023. He didn't inform his fans about the illness until late 2024. He'll also be posthumously seen in Elle. Van Der Beek started his career in the 1990s and did many projects.
The Gates also stars Mason Gooding, Algee Smith, Elle Evans, Keith Powers, and Brad Leland.
