The 2026 FIFA World Cup gave us many memorable memories, both on and off the field, but one of the most unexpected moments came from the broadcast booth when a BBC analyst misidentified Pharrell Williams as A$AP Rocky during the game. A user commented:

"They thought Matt Damon wasBrad Pitt too"

As Spain and Argentina went head to head for the World Cup title at the Metlife stadium, the camera had panned towards Pharrell in the stands, which caused the confusing. The sports analyst attempted to identify and said:

“I think that’s AKA Rocky. Or A$AP Rocky, sorry… I think.”

Although the broadcaster corrected the rapper’s name from “AKA Rocky” to “A$AP Rocky,” he still misidentified Pharrell, leading to clips of the incident circulating quickly on social media.

The mix-up involving celebrities continued further. During the broadcast, another commentator incorrectly called Matt Damon Brad Pitt after the actor appeared on screen with his wife, Luciana Barroso, further contributing to what fans deemed a challenging day for the broadcasters.

Pharrell and Rocky were both at the World Cup final

The error shocked the audience, especially since Pharrell Williams and A$AP Rocky were present at the World Cup final.

Rocky sat next to his partner Rihanna, while rapper Future and New York Knicks player Jalen Brunson were also seen in the same suite. In the meantime, Pharrell showed up at the game alone, sporting a cap worn backwards and shades.

The duo has encountered each other in a professional capacity previously within the fashion industry. Since 2023, Pharrell has been the Creative Director for Louis Vuitton Men’s, while Rocky has been acknowledged for his significant impact on fashion. Earlier this year, the pair also showcased their presence at a Louis Vuitton fashion show, where Pharrell introduced new music.

The producer appeared at the World Cup final shortly after taking the stage with Jay-Z during the rapper's three-night event at Yankee Stadium, where they performed multiple collaborative hits.

The clip quickly went viral on X, where the internet joked about the broadcaster’s error in identifying celebrities. While some users questioned how Pharrell and Rocky could be confused, others found it even funnier that Matt Damon was later mistaken for Brad Pitt. A user wrote:

"They thought Matt Damon was Brad Pitt too."

Another user joked:

"I’m f**king crying dawg"

A second user joined in:

"Legit tears bro Sh*t is crazy."

A third joined in on the error of the comentator saying:

"aka rocky is an all-time accidental remix of two famous people"

A user pointed out:

"Turns out the only thing they got right was the “rocky” part, just not the right mountain."

A netizen pointed out that it wasn't just Pharrell but Matt Damon as well:

"He even mistakenly identified Mat Damon as Brad Pitt."

Meanwhile a user pointed out that it was nothign serious:

"It's a football tournament not a talent contest."
