On October 21, Hasan Piker reacted after BioWare said they’re shutting down their studio and cancelling the development of the next Mass Effect game. This announcement comes after Electronic Arts was bought for $55 billion by some investment firms.

In their latest post, EA’s game development studio wrote that they have been a home to storytellers for over three decades.

“For more than 30 years, BioWare has been more than a studio. It has been a home for storytellers, developers, and the players who brought our worlds to life. Baldur's Gate. Neverwinter Nights. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic,” the post read.

They went on to say that they’re closing and that early development on the new Mass Effect is also ending. It read:

“Dragon Age. Mass Effect. Anthem. Now, after more than three decades of shared adventures, BioWare is closing, and early development on the next Mass Effect project is ending.”

It continued as:

“There is nothing easy about writing those words. Our focus right now is on our incredibly talented team who put their hearts into these games, and supporting one another through this transition.”

Lastly, the studio added:

“What generations of BioWare built together is something to celebrate and remember. These games became so much more because you played them, debated your choices, fell in love with the characters, and made these worlds your own. From all of us, thank you for being the most meaningful part of our story.”

The Twitch streamer and internet personality, Hasan Piker, reacted to their post, saying that the studio was his childhood, which is now gone.

“This was my childhood. It's now gone.”

EA plans to lay off employees amid BioWare shutdown

As reported by Bloomberg, Electronic Arts has also planned layoffs for around 400 employees, which is three percent of their total staff. They will also remove around 50 members who worked at the studio, which created Mass Effect and Dragon Age. The company also shared their plans of focusing on large-scale action games like Iron Man and the next Star Wars Jedi.

As the news went viral, fans mourned the discontinuation of Mass Effect on the internet.
