On October 8, President Trump awarded Elon Musk the National Medal of Science at the DC Summit. At the event, the POTUS praised the Tesla mogul as the modern-day ‘Thomas Edison.’ The president listed all the contributions of Elon Musk in his speech while inviting the tech leader on stage at the Science and Innovation Summit. He praised Elon’s efforts in technology through his work with SpaceX, Tesla, and Neuralink.
In his speech, Trump dubbed Elon Musk an ‘industrial titan’ and the ‘greatest technology founder’ to ever live. He went on to say that there’s no one else like Musk in the field of technology. He said:
“First, we honor an industrial titan, a brilliant engineer, and one of the greatest technology founders to ever live. His name is Elon Musk.”
The president called Musk a ‘genius’ for turning science fiction into reality through SpaceX. He highlighted how Elon started his company with his savings and created his first liquid-fueled rocket.
“His genius and determination have made science fiction into reality. And that is so true. Elon founded SpaceX with his life savings in 2002 and created the first privately developed liquid-fueled rocket to reach orbit in the face of vanishingly impossible odds,” Trump added.
He further hailed Elon Musk as a ‘national treasure’ and lauded him for creating the largest communication satellite network, Starlink. The POTUS said:
“National treasure. Under Elon's leadership, SpaceX has also developed Starship, the largest rocket in history, which is caught out of thin air and is designed for rapid reuse. And it's the first time anyone's ever seen anything quite like it. They also created the largest ever communication satellite network, Starlink.”
He also mentioned Musk’s contributions in self-driving technology through his company, Tesla.
“In addition, Elon created Tesla, the first successful new car manufacturer in over 75 years, producing the first commercially viable electric car with the first consumer self-driving technology,” the POTUS said.
Lastly, he compared Elon Musk with the legendary inventor and scientist Thomas Alva Edison, who is known for his inventions like the light bulb and phonograph. The president said:
“Through Neuralink, Elon is also restoring sight, speech, and motion to those who cannot see, talk, or move. And he turned SpaceX AI into one of the world's leaders in Super Intelligence. Elon is our modern-day Thomas Edison.”
Trump also honored Jensen Huang, Satya Nadella, and others at DC Summit
Besides Elon Musk, the POTUS honored other personalities like Sergey Brin (Google co-founder), Jensen Huang (CEO of Nvidia), and Lisa Su (CEO of AMD) with the National Medal of Science.
Further, Trump awarded Michael Dell (Chairman and CEO of Dell Technologies) and Satya Nadella (Chairman and CEO of Microsoft) the National Medal of Technology and Innovation.
The summit marked American leadership in space exploration, artificial intelligence (Super Intelligence), quantum computing, and nuclear energy.
