Trump supporter Sylvester Stallone says “all war is futile” during NYT interview

Sylvester Stallone is currently promoting his new memoir, The Steps, named after the Philadelphia Museum of Art stairs he scaled in the 1976 film. As per a report shared by The New York Times, the eighty-year-old actor best known for Rocky and Rambo, was recently asked whether Rambo had represented his worldview at the time, with the interviewer pointing to a 1985 quote in which he had spoken in favor of American military power.

"It did. And now I realize all war is futile. It's a mechanism to make tons of money for the war department and manufacturers, and these kids are just going out there into a gristmill, being chopped up, and then when they come back with no arms it's, Oh, sorry, you're on your own. I hate it and I'm bitterly opposed to it," shared Stallone.

"But at one time I was truly gung-ho. I don't know if I was just trying to go against the current. In Hollywood, there's a certain dynamic, as you know. I think it was just naïveté, really, because I read a lot, especially after First Blood, and I go, Wow, this is brutal, this is horrible, there's no glory in war. None," added Stallone.

His comments caught the attention of Alex Jones, who shared a post on X, writing that Stallone had

"come out against all major foreign wars, including the current Iran disaster, in a bold and courageous statement."

Sylvester Stallone once called Donald Trump the second George Washington:

As per a report shared by USA Today back in November 2024, Stallone had called Donald Trump the "second George Washington" while introducing the president at a gala. The Expendables actor was speaking at an America First Policy Gala in Palm Beach, Florida, where he compared Trump to his character in Rocky.

"This man was going to go through a metamorphosis and change lives, just like President Trump," shared Stallone.

He didn't stop there, adding that being in Trump's presence felt like something else entirely.

"We're in the presence of a really mythical character … Nobody in the world could've pulled off what he pulled off, so I'm in awe," he said.

Stallone then drew a comparison between Trump and one of America's founding fathers.

"When George Washington defended his country, he had no idea that he was going to change the world. 'Cause without him, you can imagine what the world would look like. Guess what, we got the second George Washington," shared Stallone.

Sylvester Stallone says he never signed up to be one of Trump's Hollywood ambassadors:

As per a report shared by The Hollywood Reporter, Stallone has revealed that he didn't necessarily sign up to be one of President Donald Trump's special Hollywood ambassadors.

Last year, Trump had named Stallone, alongside Jon Voight and Mel Gibson, as "Special Envoys" with the goal of bringing Hollywood's business back to the United States. That being said, as per a report shared by The Sunday Times, Stallone revealed that he learned about the appointment in a rather unexpected way.

"Well, it just happened. I was watching TV one night and they go, 'So Stallone and Mel Gibson and Jon Voight will be …' And I went, 'What?' I said, 'Excuse me? Really?' Because if they had asked me in the beginning, I would have said, 'This is not possible,'" shared Stallone.

He admitted he had reservations about the role from the start.

"Hollywood, I guess it's like feudal states. They have their little kingdoms. You don't go in and tell six studios how to do things. And Mel Gibson and Jon Voight, we're kind of do-our-own-thing people. No, it won't work," explained Stallone.

Sylvester Stallone also made his feelings clear to Trump directly.

"I said thank you and ciao, because it's impossible. Hollywood works and it will evolve. It's corporate and corporate people won't want to hear me tell them about finance," added Stallone.

The Tulsa King actor has maintained that he is "not a political animal," describing himself as "almost a political atheist."

As per his interview with The New York Times, Stallone was asked when exactly had he become antiwar. Sylvester Stallone didn't shy away from sharing his thoughts in detail.

"Look, if you're under attack, of course you have to defend yourself. I don't want to get into politics now, but all wars basically destroy both sides. It really creates this horrible history. Grudges are held, countries are destroyed and lines are redrawn, for what?" shared Stallone.
