Katie Zacharia is thanking President Donald Trump for hosting her family at the White House after her abrupt departure as press secretary less than a week after taking the job.

On Saturday, Oct. 17, she took to X/Twitter and expressed her gratitude in a post to the president for welcoming her family to the Oval Office and giving her children gifts on her son’s birthday.

“It was an unforgettable honor.”

The former White House Secretary wrote:

“Thank you, President Trump, for hosting my family and me in the Oval Office and for the generous gifts you gave my children on my son’s birthday.”

Her post came after two White House officials confirmed Friday she was leaving the press secretary position following a rocky start as Trump’s top spokesperson.

Trump told reporters earlier Friday he had encouraged Katie Zacharia to reconsider remaining in the role after she faced tough press coverage during her first days on the job.

“I told her, ‘I think you're better off being happy, and I'm not sure you can ever be happy in this stuff.’ There's nothing easy about this stuff.”

He continued:

"She's been treated, I would say, pretty nastily, and I said to Katie just two minutes ago, I said, 'Katie, you know, you don't have to do this if you don't want.' She said, 'This is a lot tougher.' I said, 'Welcome to the world of Trump.’”

The POTUS added he planned to revisit the conversation with Katie Zacharia later.

Katie Zacharia’s legal background questioned

Zacharia began the role on Monday and held her first White House press briefing Tuesday. She was selected to succeed Karoline Leavitt, who announced in August she would leave the position.

Her short tenure drew scrutiny over her professional background, including questions about her legal credentials.

Zacharia said she had practiced international transaction law and possessed the appropriate credentials.

However, Reuters reported it found no records showing she was registered as an attorney or member of the bar in any U.S. state or the District of Columbia.

Her departure leaves Trump without a press secretary during the run-up to November’s midterm elections, as he seeks to promote his administration’s record and help Republicans retain control of Congress.

Following her departure, Zacharia took to her social media to make her first statement, praising the president.

"President Trump is a kind, wonderful, gracious, thoughtful, enthusiastic, and hardworking man. I wish more Americans appreciated him. No one will ever make America great the way he has and continues to. It was an honor to work for him.”
