Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky responded to criticism from President Trump and Elon Musk in a new interview. On Saturday, during a press gaggle at the White House, Trump was asked about critics arguing that his oil deal with Putin could prolong the Russia-Ukraine conflict. In response, the POTUS said Zelensky "could have settled this war" many times but "chooses not to." Trump slammed the Ukrainian leader for targeting refineries and blamed him for creating "problems for the world." Further into the conversation, the president suggested that Ukrainians should "get a new leader who can make a deal." Reacting to Trump's comments, shared by the White House's Rapid Response page on X, Elon Musk commented:"Zelensky has gone too far."In a separate post, Musk echoed Trump's suggestion and wrote, "Time for Ukraine to get a new leader."On Sunday, Volodymyr Zelensky raised concerns about the recent Russian diesel deal between Trump and Putin while addressing criticism of his leadership during an appearance on ABC News' This Week. During the interview, host Jon Karl noted that Trump was not the only one calling for a change in Ukrainian leadership, referring to Elon Musk's aforementioned comment. Karl then asked, "Why are they blaming you for the continuation of this war?" The Ukrainian president responded:"Because these people can't find a key to stop Putin. Because it's more difficult to stop Putin than to pressure others. Because it's simpler to speak about prices and connect them with Ukraine. When everybody in the world understands that prices are rising because of the war in the Middle East, the blocking of Hormuz, and these reasons, everybody understands it."Volodymyr Zelensky responds to Trump's call for a change in Ukrainian leadershipIn his Sunday interview with ABC News, Zelensky addressed Trump's remarks about the need for a new Ukrainian president."With all respect to President Trump, it's up to our society, up to our people, to choose one or another leader. Yes, we are at war, and how to do elections is really difficult. Not only that, it goes absolutely unsecured, and it goes against our law, against our Constitution. But the main thing is to have security infrastructure for this, to give people the possibility to vote."Zelensky added that if the POTUS wants a change in Ukraine's leadership, he needs to "tell Putin" to halt the war for two months. He claimed that if a 60-day ceasefire comes into effect, "we will organize elections."Later on Sunday, President Trump announced on Truth Social that both Russia and Ukraine "have agreed" to an "energy ceasefire." The POTUS urged both parties "not to break it."Also read: "I could say the stupidest things and you'd clap": Trump praises supporters during Tennessee rally to boost GOP candidates
