Journalist Mehdi Hasan has reacted to Donald Trump's order to change the name of AI (Artificial Intelligence) to SI (Super Intelligence). The latter claimed that he would sign an executive order to bring this change at the federal level.The POTUS held a lunch with some tech giants at the White House on Tuesday to discuss AI and regulations around it. The likes of Mark Zuckerberg, Sundar Pichai, Elon Musk, Jensen Huang, and Dario Amodei attended it. Along with announcing a new set of standards, Trump also said that he'll change AI to SI.During a recent press conference, he said:"Super intelligence or SI, and that's the official name in the United States. I'll be signing a very powerful executive order. I spoke to President Xi. He loves it. When you say artificial intelligence, it's artificial. This is extreme intelligence. It's superior intelligence. It's supreme intelligence also. But the word super is the best word of all and it's the simplest."Journalist Mehdi Hasan reacted to this speech on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, writing:"This is Donald Trump's sole contribution to the crucial debate over the future and safety of AI. We live in the worst timeline. We live in Idiocracy. It feels like early 2020 all over again."Soon after his lunch meeting with the tech giants, the White House released an executive order from the POTUS, who also shared it on Truth Social. In it, he claimed that SI "more appropriately captures the promise, potential, and rapidly advancing capabilities of these technologies."He further ordered that executive departments and agencies use the term Super Intelligence moving forward. He claimed that it is "like a constitution" and it outlines a number of guidelines for these organizations. After his lunch meeting with the tech giants, he said (via CBS News):"I think it's morally binding. I think I'm seeing tremendous self-policing, and they understand that they have to self-police."He further said (h/t CNBC):“There’s a belief that there should be tremendous self-regulation, and we automatically have regulation with the Department of Justice, the FBI, all of that. But the self-regulation is very important.”This comes after a former OpenAI and Anthropic researcher named Jacob Coxon's viral post on X. He claimed that he left the organizations and said that they are "gambling with our lives." He further said that the higher executives at these companies believe that AI "could kill us all by the end of the decade." After the lunch meeting with the POTUS, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei also acknowledged that there are some negative aspects to AI. However, he highlighted the benefits and urged every company to work together. He added that the US must win the AI race and that they need to work with the President.
