On September 23, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman addressed the UN Security Council on AI. At the council, he talked about the importance of powerful systems for human control over AI and also demanded international cooperation on the developing technology. Besides, Sam Altman warned the UN Security Council about the risks of AI. He said that Artificial Intelligence is growing so fast that people can no longer control its future.The tech CEO said:“First, we could lose control of the future to AI. The risk is that it moves so fast that people can no longer follow what’s happening or intervene when needed. This would obviously be terrible.”He went on to say that the industry must not accept the risks that come with AI in order to reap its benefits. He also opened up about the importance of slowing down AI.“The industry must not accept too much technological risk just because the benefits are too great and that they feel too important to slow down.”Sam Altman also demanded an international mechanism for AI standardsOpenAI CEO also said that both national and international mechanisms should be in place to look over the capabilities and risks of AI. He added that if Artificial Intelligence is ‘democratic’, then decisions cannot be taken inside the labs; rather, they should be formed using democratic processes.Further in his speech, Sam Altman said that AI can be used as a ‘tool’ in ‘scientific progress,’ but it cannot replace human agency.“The continuous story of human progress is not that tools replace human agency. It is that the right tools make people more capable, and I believe this is going to go much further than we believe possible.”The CEO of Anthropic, Dario Amodei, also addressed the UN Security Council and said that AI can be a risk to humanity as a ‘whole.’In related news, Trump recently unveiled the new official name for Artificial Intelligence as ‘Super Intelligence’. The POTUS stated that the reason for this renaming was that “artificial” made the technology appear “fake.” President Trump introduced the term ‘Super Intelligence’ during his recent speech at the UN. He also said that this new term will be used in the US documents going forward.
