Grey's Anatomy's Eric Dane has recently passed away from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) which is also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. He was diagnosed in April 2025 and since then put efforts towards raising funds and awareness regarding the motor neurone disease (MND).

During his final interview for Netflix's Famous Last Words, the actor, who is often known as McSteamy from his role in Grey's Anatomy, reflected on his relationship with his estranged wife, Rebecca Gayheart, expressing that he had nothing but immense love for her.

He told the interviewer Brad Falchuk, "We still love each other deeply, I just think we don't want to live with each other. But there's a lot of love there. I will have never, by the time anybody sees this, have fallen in love with another woman as deeply as I fell in love with Rebecca. She's the mother of my children, and the whole way that thing came about was so organic and fortuitous. I met Rebecca, and I turned to her friend and I said 'I'm going to marry that girl.'"

The couple got married in 2004 in Las Vegas, Nevada and had two daughters, Billie Beatrice, on March 3, 2010 followed by Georgia Geraldine on December 28, 2011. Though the two got divorced in February 2018, after 14 years of marriage, they fixed their relationship once Eric Dane's diagnosis came out.

Eric Dane spoke about their reconciliation often in several interviews. He once said,

"I call Rebecca. I talk to her every day. We have managed to become better friends and better parents. And she is probably my biggest champion, my most stalwart supporter, and I lean on her."

The segment also revealed his final message to his daughters, telling them, "You are my everything. Good night. I love you."
